My search for an edible frozen Mexican dinner isn't going well.

I have tried to find frozen Mexican food and I’ve struck out every time. There has to be something, in the frozen food aisle, that at least looks like Mexican food and isn’t barf bad. Or maybe not. One particular offering was so bad I wrote the company and complained, only to be rewarded with 6 dollars in coupons for more of the same stuff I had already tossed in the trash.

So, any suggestions besides cooking it myself? There has to be something out there. Do you know of any good frozen Mexican food?

[=entrees"]Amy’s.](https://www.amys.com/our-foods?onthemenu[0)

All vegetarian, but everything of their’s I’ve tried so far has been good, ranging on great (for frozen entrees, that is.)

Amy’s does have good frozen food in general. They have a decent selection of burritos that are all pretty good.

It’s not Mexican, of course, but I also like their pot pies and other pocket sandwiches.

Mexican food seems to be the red-headed stepchild of the frozen food aisle. BTW, you probably want to list the brands you’ve tried so people just don’t throw out things you’ve tried.

I’d suggest Amy’s Kitchen. However, Amy’s is…

  1. Organic, and priced accordingly.
  2. Vegetarian. They use a lot of cheese, though.

Amy’s burritos have sworn me off other microwave burritos (expensive, though). I had one of their enchilada platters (enchiladas suiza) a few years ago, and it was pretty good. They make a good (non-frozen) black bean salsa.

Does Skyline Chili count?

Seriously, though, the only frozen Mexican food that I keep returning to (and it’s not extremely authentic) are Trader Joe’s tamales - specifically, the Beef or Pork & Red Sauce varieties. Unforunately, not available in the local supermarket.

Offerings by EVOL are decent, too, but not quite a full meal.

The Lean Cuisine Spicy Beef and Bean Enchilada is actually very good. I had it for lunch today. At 310 calories it’s not a huge amount of food, but it is very tasty.

Trader Joe’s has some “Mexican” items that are okay.

Where do you live? Round these parts (Chicago neighborhoods) you are never more than a block from a mom and pop Mexican joint with excellent fast takeout food. No need for frozen.

My grandma makes the best Mexican food, you all should really come try it!

I’m going to try the Amy’s. I checked and it’s available locally here in SoCal. Thanks for that option. Hopefully the cheese enchiladas are tasty. Thanks.

There’s a YouTuber who does humorous but fair frozen dinner reviews and gave the El Charrito beef enchilada dinner high marks, which is surprising since most of the things he reviews he hates.

Where I live (Colorado) over in the deli section there are pre-made burritos of different stripes. By the pre-made salads and sandwiches and stuff.

Frozen food too. Just a burrito though. Not a ‘meal’.

Doctor them up with a little hot sauce and cheese, and they are actually pretty good.

Tina’s frozen burritos are very good.
Especially if you add a topping. I like chili on mine. Velveeta cheese is good too.

There’s several to pick from. We usually buy plain bean or the beef. The red hot beef is very spicy.

I usually heat them in the microwave. Then put in a preheated fry pan veg oil. That crisps up the outside.

Evol.

I second this. Also the cheese and green chile and sweet corn. Carve up an avocado or put on some Trader Joe’s salsa, and it’s good, tasty times.

Don’t you have available decent frozen tamales? They seem like a good option.
(eta posted before I read all the responses. I haven’t had Trader Joes’ tamales, but even the country grocery store in my arnea has decent frozen tamales.)

I like TJ’s frozen green chile and cheese tamales, and the frozen beef tamales. They’re not great, nor very ‘Mexican’, but I find them tasty. Some of their refrigerated burritos are good too. Your best bet would be to just go to your local carnicería and stock up on tamales.

But why buy frozen Mexican food? Why not just make it?

Far far better than Amy’s are Las Campanas frozen burritos. They come in a freezer bag of a dozen burritos in various flavors. Nuke a pair of them 2.5 minutes then spoon on some salsa and shredded sharp cheddar and pop 'em back in for another half minute and instant rushed-evening dinner.

While most of the Swanson’s Mexican Hungry Man is nothing to write home about, I sure love the cocada pudding! Is that sold individually anywhere?

When you say frozen, does it have to be microwave food?
You might want to look at something like taquitos. El Monterray makes really good ones, specifically the Extra Crunchy ones. I believe you can microwave them as well, but I can’t imagine they’d be the same. Also, to get them an extra step away from being microwave food, I’ll usually dip them in sour cream and taco sauce or salsa.
I know they also make some individual gas station looking burritos (and a few other things), but I’ve never looked at those. I could live on the crunchy taquitos (as long as living on them involved just one meal a week, maybe two).

And not really ‘mexican food’, but Jacks makes a Mexican Pizza that’s about as good as any other cheap frozen pizza.
