Not a GD but it’s related so I’ll post it here and leave it in the hands of
the great unseen one.
OK, Seems to me that, on one level, the SDMB operates like this:
There’s threadphobes – never post an OP
There’s threadaholic’s – do nothing in their lives but post OP’s
and there’s the vaguely balanced somewhere inbetweenies.
Everyone’s got their own thing, so that’s ok. However, I’ve recently developed a hack-‘em-into-small-pieces-and-feed-‘em-to-the-dog aversion to those folk who post contentious OP’s and then just disappear – you can have a lively thread going, maybe 50 posts long, and the damn OP just vanishes after expressing one view in the opening post.
That might be fine if subsequent posts agreed or didn’t introduce something else. But it just seems some people either like the attention – sad, sad lives – or are immune to fresh observations about their stance on a given issue.
My view: If you start a contentious thread, follow the damn thing and even maybe contribute a little ** so you don’t look fucking stupid - or sad – or just plain ignorant**
Have a better day than me, cheers.
(That’s the second f*** in 260 odd posts – but it felt so gooooood!)
