Saw it last night for the 8 pm feature and the only people in the whole place were me and another couple. (This was in one of those multi-plexes with stadium seating, and super sound!)
Well, we couldn’t believe our good fortune, and after all the movie threads I’ve read in the Pit about noisy kids and the like, I just had to share this with y’all to let you know it is possible to enjoy a movie without all those aggravations. Guess you just have to pick the right night and time.
BTW, I know this isn’t anything earth-shattering, but for a person who very rarely goes to the movies (me), it was a pleasant surprise.
I still have one of those free passes that came with the Fellowship extended DVD. When TTT came out the theaters around here had ‘no passes’ notations for it.
Not any more. If you read the fine print, they were good from opening day to December 31st. Even the “no pass” theaters were taking them in that time period since they weren’t really a pass, but rather a “check” the theater could cash for the amount of the ticket.
I used mine on Thursday, the 19th for a 6:30 showing, and the theater was about two-thirds full. I’m guessing the real fans were there on the first day and during the matinees earlier that day. This was the first “full-freight” showing, during supper time for a lot of folks, and I guess they decided they might as well wait for the 7 or 8 o’clock showings if they were going to pay that much.
Ahh well. I went to the opening day 10AM show - basically the second showing after the midnight premiere. That only cost $5.75 so I held onto it (and hadn’t read the fine print).
I used my free pass thingee on opening day as well. I went to the 8pm show, and the box office girl said that she’d seen HUNDREDS of them already. I guess nothing motivates people like a free ticket.
I think the “no pass” warning applies to season/student/senior citizen passes, which some theatres have. The thingee included in the DVD box was a ticket voucher…I’m assuming the free admissions came out of New Line’s cut of the box office grosses?
I love empty movie theatres. It’s only happened twice in my life, for “Sleepy Hollow” and “The Madness Of King George”.
