I was just talking with my cousin and he told me he was downloading scenes from the movie Faces Of Death. Now in case you don’t know, Faces Of Death is a compilation of videos of accidents, murder investigations, executions and I don’t know what the hell else.
He was fucking Laughing! Laughing! Who the fuck Laughs at that?!
His favorite scenes were an execution where a man is slapped around before being shot in the head (“It was like,‘your’e my bitch! take that!’”) and another where a woman is run over by a car (“Cuz she was trying to get up afterwards!”).
I don’t know about you but, hillarity does not ensue after any of that for me.
At first I thought he didn’t know it was real. “Yeah, I know. That’s what makes it funny cuz the guy’s brains where sprayed out and there were, like, some pieces of bone and shit”
I cut him off afterwards, If I heard anymore I would have ran over to his house and killed him for the sake of humanity. It’s a shame because his mother is a Jehova´s Witness and she can barely handle action scenes from Tomb Raider(!).
So do your Must See TV Thursdays involve any decapitations and airplane accidents?
A guy I work with has the Faces of Death VHS box set. He’s also a big zombie movie fan, and has covered the walls of his dorm room with Garbage Pail Kids cards.
He’s a good guy, though. He doesn’t enthuse about his love of gore to anyone he works with. Your cousin, however, sounds like an asshat. Don’t kill him, he probably won’t reproduce.
For what it’s worth, I believe chunks of Faces of Death are faked. Makes your cousin no less an asshat, however.
Faces of Death is mostly fake, if that makes you feel any better.
Your cousin thinks it’s real, though, so he’s still a sicko.
Faces of Death?!..if that boy wants to see death, let him enlist and do it honorably.
We gonna need a hellava lot more cannon fodder before its all over.
::raising hand::
Well, to be fair, not all of it. But there are definitely highly amusing scenes, mostly the “Darwin at work” ones. My personal favorite is on the first tape- the guy who, despite these HUGE signs, park ranger warnings, and the pleadings of his wife, gets out of his car at a park and offers a sandwich to a bear. The next thing you see, just after the wife says “don’t get too close to the bear!” is the guy’s head flying through the air and bouncing off the car. Completely, utterly fake, and hilarious. Conversely, I’ve never been able to watch the monkey-brains-at-the-restaurant scene on the same tape.
Plus I know that the majority of the scenes were fake or at least “enhanced” for viewing… erm… pleasure. Which puts these videos squarely into the “mostly fiction and available for mocking” category. Much like a Friday the 13th movie.
Oddly, I found Bumfights to be deplorable and essentially unwatchable.
YM Obviously V.
An old high school pal of mine was fascinated by these flicks. I could never understand the attraction. She was working in a hospital at the time and I wondered if this was somehow related to the environment she was in. She did mention a co-worker who had been shot on a smoke break to me once and had just spoken to the co-worker about twenty minutes before the shooting. I told myself is was just how she was handling the situation when she wanted to rent “Faces of Death”.
So we rented it… and we watched. I was disturbed by it but also was wondering, “Why is there a camera ready at this exact moment?” during several of the scenes and we ended up discussing the movie with a doctor friend of hers. He watched it and claimed most of it wasn’t real. Still didn’t take away my initial reaction of horror and disgust. What sort of entertainment is this anyway? I can see a “horror” movie and I won’t get the same sick-in-the-pit-of-my-stomach/disturbed feeling as I did from FoD. I know horror movies aren’t real but I was told Fod wasn’t real. Is it the way it’s presented? I don’t know.
I saw the monkey at the restaurant scene (which saddened and disgusted me at the same time) and the beginning of the puppies in the box scene (which I had to walk out of the room after I realized what would happen). The scene that really got to me, the one that disturbed me the most, was the cops busting into killer’s house scene. It had a strong similarity to something on Jeffrey Dahlmer (sp?). Body parts in freezer basically and some tapes made by the killer of his victims. SCARY STUFF, imho, real or not! The cops played one tape of the killer decapitating his victim and it freaked me out. I stopped watching the movie right there. Your cousin laughs at this??? I miss the joke.
I love gore. The more the merrier. I don’t think it’s funny, per se, but I find it facinating. I have tons of books on forensic pathology, crime scene investigation and famous cases involving dismemberment or cannibalism. I watch HBO’s Autopsy almost ever time it’s aired.
Please tell me I’m not the only one who gets irritated because rotten.com isn’t updated nearly enough. Please?
