My sister's murderer will not be charged

It’s neither offensive nor tactless to take someone to task for offering to fix a jury. That offer, in fact, is both offensive and tactless.

Well, I’m a firm believer in letting the justice system do its thing, even if the results are not what I would wish. False accusations and lying witnesses do exist, and, on the other hand, sometimes the guilty go free. That’s life.

The bright side of this is that he was not subject to jeopardy. Should new evidence come out, should the witnesses grow backbones, or should he confess, he can be tried.

I’m really sorry to hear that, Frank. It would have been better to hear that justice was done in her name, but as you say he’ll be behind bars for the rest of his life, I guess that’s better than nothing.

While whiteknighting BigT is something I am not fond of doing

I think some of you people here can’t read for shit. Or at best sure choose the shitty assed interpretation instead of a more reasonable one that much better fits BigT likely personality and motivations.

Good grief.

My condolences Frank.

Please put “I am not Trinopus” in your siggy. Most of us know Trinopus as an intelligent, articulate poster. You are clearly not in that category, so please help avoid all confusion in the matter by using that siggy.
Thank you.

I DID NOT SAY ANYTHING ABOUT FIXING A JURY.

It doesn’t even make sense. How could a single juror force someone to be found guilty? I would just force a hung jury.

I was addressing the subject of this Pit thread, the assholes who would not testify. They are the ones who refused to go to trial, not the jury.

Not only did multiple people tell Monty that his interpretation was wrong, but people couldn’t even figure out what he was talking about. You’d think that, after someone misinterpreted his post as an attack on you, you’d both be more sympathetic to the idea that you may have misinterpreted mine.

Look, I know you’re grieving, and Monty was just trying to be a decent guy. But fucking shit does this sort of shit annoy me! I actually have it in my signature. Please try not to do this.

Yep. That seemed clear to me. The interpretation that he was eagerly volunteering to subvert a fair trial is kinda nutso.

I’ll be honest–I was confused at what was trying to be said, as the first half of the sentence was about jury duty, so it made sense to me that the second half was about jury duty, not about being a witness. You gotta admit, it’s poorly expressed.

Yes, but when one interpretation of something poorly expressed is something shitty/stupid and the other possible one is something reasonable AND then you throw in CONTEXT and some logic.

Well, lets just say I tend to think that the person who can’t figure it out is more a moron than the person who wrote it badly.

BigT - is there any part of you that considered even for a second that maybe this thread is not about you and that maybe you should just let things be and move on? Is there any part of you that recognizes that what you’re doing is in poor taste?

Hang on. I’ll give it a shot.

There you go! I’ve done as you asked. However, since I’m not very intelligent or articulate there’s a slim chance I may have gotten it wrong. Please let me know if my new signature isn’t to your satisfaction.

Thank you.

Frank, I am sorry that you had to go through all of this and I am very impressed with your attitude about it. I hope that I have such zen and clear headedness should such a tragedy befall me.

On a different note, a very good friend of mine was the lead felony prosecutor for a Northern California county. She told me that they are very good at spotting people like BigTard who try to get on a jury to exact vengeance rather than to do a fair job. They actually don’t want them because they tend to annoy the fuck out of the other jurors and have the opposite effect.

I was on the jury of a murder trial several years ago. Apparently, someone owed a drug debt and the kingpin sent a couple of his minions to shoot up a house. Four people were in the house. the person who owed the drug debt escaped unharmed as did another person. Two others were shot, one fatally and the other through the head & eye leaving her disabled.

At trial, 3 defendants: Kingpin and 2 shooters. Only one eyewitness saw the house get shot up. During the initial interview with the police, this witness gave a very detailed story. He saw the faces, the getaway car, types of guns used. Knew the 2 shooters were working for Mr. Kingpin…etc. Basically enough to easily get a conviction.

During the trial, Mr. Sole Eyewitness walks into court and sits on the stand. The 3 defendants gave him the most evil stare downs I’ve ever seen. Mr. EyeWitness looked terrified.

The prosecutors asks if he recalls seeing the shooting on such and such night…etc.
Mr. EyeWitness says, “Nope! I didn’t see NOTHING!!”
Prosecutor waves papers in the air and says, “I have your signature and statement here saying you DID see this shooting.”
Eyewitness says, “I LIED!”

After a few more futile attempts, the prosecutor dismisses him from the bench.

He was the only witness. As the jury, we had no choice but to find them not guilty. The judge agreed. It turns out the shooters were already doing long prison terms, but Mr. Kingpin got to go home.

I could barely look at the victim and their families in the stands. It’s been 20-something years and i still remember the names of everyone, the details and it still bugs me we had to let him go even though my gut and other circumstantial testimony/ evidence made me feel Mr. Kingpin was guilty.

I don’t know if Mr. Eyewitness was ever held in contempt. But I’m pretty sure his life was at stake if he testified.

I’m very sorry on the loss of your sister…

FWIW (and the response was, alas, predictably asinine) thank you for the kind words.

Monty, you’re a fucking retard.

I am so sorry, Frank.

I’m very sorry to hear this, Frank.

Did you get any hint that threats or intimidation were used against any witnesses?

Tried socking up did ya Second Stone?

…can both the pro-BigT and the anti-BigT and the pro-Monty and the anti-Monty posters please just give it a rest and bugger off?

I’m sorry to hear of this as well Frank. :frowning: Its a bit late, but my condolences.
