My son is a published writer!

On the internet, at least!

I checked the mail today, and there’s a big box from K’Nex addressed to my son. I asked my almost 13-year-old what he ordered from K’Nex, and he started shouting, “I won! I won!”

Then I remembered.

Some weeks ago he had entered a writing contest, something to do with a Mech Warrior or something series of K’Nex toys. My son wrote out this story, typed it up on the 'puter, then mailed it off. He forgot to put on postage, so I thought either it would be returned to us or put in the dead letter box.

So I forgot about it, until the box arrived.

My son was jumping up and down when we got home, and frantically urging our dial-up line to connect to the Internet so he could check his e-mail. Sure enough, there was a confirmation that he’d won and would be getting the entire Mech Warrior series of K’Nex toys soon.

Plus, they published my son’s entry as the final episode of the story.

I didn’t quite understand the story my son wrote, but then, I didn’t read the entire series.

If anyone is interested, here is the link to his story.

I remember the first time I had an Op-Ed piece published (local paper) when I was 17, so if his excitement is like mine, he’s on Cloud 9.

Sir Rhosis

Cloud 99, I’d say.

I think he came down around dinner time.

Then, we got a call from Waldenbooks. He and his sister entered in a drawing when I went to buy Harry Potter V, and his name was picked for a prize.

His sister is a little miffed this evening, so she and I went on a bike ride and talked about the book some. I’m up to Chapter 13.

Congratulations to your son. But, you may want to keep a close eye on your daughter, she may be feeling a little jealous. I know I would.

That is too cool!

I know, but that’s the way life goes sometimes. My son took the time to enter a contest, and as such, had a chance to win said contest.

My daughter has her own talents, but she’s 11, and I still think in the “Me too!” phase. She’s doing well on her guitar, and is currently reading Harry Potter V behind me.
