My taxes and me

OK - just to state it up front - this is not a “how do I get out of paying my taxes thread.”

I just finished filing my state & federal taxes and started to wonder just where all this money is going. More important, being part of the “me” generation, how are these taxes affecting me?

So, From start of day to end of day, I want to know where me and my tax dollars are meeting. So far I’ve got this, anybody else think of more?

  1. Wake up: clock powered by electricity from local power plant. (public bonds?)
  2. Potty & flush - sewer by city.
  3. Shower: water by local city, paid by my water bill but are the pipes maintained by my taxes? Gas to heat it by local gas company, sewer by city.
  4. Breakfast: Yogurt (milk subsidies) & Granola (farm subsidies).
  5. Take car to big bus hub (Bailout of American car industry) Gasoline? Taxes maintain surface streets.
  6. Bus to work:
    Taxes subsidize public transportation
Taxes maintain city streets, US Highway (US-36), & interstate (I-25).
  7. Arrive at job.
  8. McDonalds for lunch (food subsidies again)
  9. Reverse the trip home
  10. Dinner (farm subsidies again)
  11. TV with the family. (Broadcast industry? anything here?)
  12. DVD movie with the wife (movie industry here.) BTW: all Japanese (Sony, Samsung) electronics with BOSE (American!) speakers.
  13. Bed & sleepy time. (Tiawan made my bedroom set with American oak - exports & imports here).

OK, I know there’s stuff I’m forgetting. There’s also near misses like there’s less street people asking me for spare change since there’s welfare programs. I have the good job I have because I utilized public education and went to a federally subsidized college (but I wasn’t paying squat in taxes during these years).

So - where else are me and my tax dollars crossing paths?
