My tooth broke

Less than a week before Xmas.
Sitting at my computer.
Not eating.
I was thinking–“my life is getting better”.
Then, pow.

Consider yourself lucky. Many worse things could have happened to you. Always look on the bright side of life.

Sorry to hear that, that sucks. Tooth stuff is the worst. Maybe not the literal worst but the combination of pain, difficulty eating, the omnipresent feeling of “different” in your mouth and concerns about visual impact make tooth stuff rate up high in my book of shitty difficulties. So I feel ya. Hope you can get it taken care of swiftly and its impact is minimal.

Can you get an emergency temporary fix?

My MIL broke a tooth right before our son’s wedding. I’m amateur i wasn’t super sympathetic, because i was already stressing over the wedding details. (And the couple is now divorced.) But she was really upset about the photos.

The best advice i could get at the time was for her to get some sugarless gum to cover the open surface.

Walgreens sells a decent patch compound. I’ve never found it at a CVS only the stuff to temporarily glue caps back. The Walgreens stuff is good for filling holes and gaps. It’s not a fix but offers some reinforcement and keeps food and stuff out of the hole until you can see a dentist.

See, that was your big mistake, right there. Shouldn’t have tempted fate like that.

Sorry to hear about your tooth. Hope you can get it patched up by Christmas.

Once a few years ago, coincidentally around 2pm on a Saturday, same day and time as right now, I was eating popcorn, bit down on an unpopped kernel, and my molar just exploded. Fortunately my dentist, who was just getting ready to close up shop for the day, volunteered to stay late and give me a temporary crown.

Yeah. Exactly 10 years ago yesterday my wife died. I’d rather have broken all my teeth. Not to minimize the OP’s problem; teeth issues really suck. I wonder how you break a tooth when you’re not eating though. Hope you can get an easy and painless fix.

I don’t think my MIL was doing anything exciting, either. Not cracking nuts or chewing on bones, for sure.

I can sympathize, a couple months ago I was just sitting here and my tooth started hurting out of the blue. I got in to see the dentist on Tuesday and I at some point cracked the tooth and it had become infected. After a round of antibiotics he removed the offending tooth the day after my birthday.

Hoping for no pain.

Of course many of us have accidents, diseases, losses that are worse.
But, your trauma and upset are valid.

Be prepared for a wait. You probably won’t get into a dentist til after the first.

Good luck.

All fixed!
{Bosda is stunned}
:hushed:

My dentist responded to his emergency-only number, and I got my tooth fixed Saturday.
The advice I got years ago is true--only go to a Dentist whose name is on the door–NO CLINICS!

Congrats!

Yay! So glad you got it.
