My UV lamp puts out 1000 volts- ouch!

I needed a UV lamp to illuminate and photograph some uranium glass appliances I have. They are easy to find online , not so much at a local store. I found this lamp at Menard’s to try out. It does not work for what I wanted because the light is too shielded.

It has a spiral wound wire inside and according to the box it puts out 1000 volts for bug zapping. So the entire bug zapping feature is contained in a 5 dollar lamp. No need to buy a bulky hanging fixture. Pretty cool.

Except they zap the wrong bugs.

Oh no. It has a picture of a mosquito with a red X over it.

About as accurate as a Trump NFT…

Please tell me more about uranium glass appliances.

I have a large collection of mostly pre-WWII electric kitchen mixers. 120 or more. Several of them use uranium glass (Vaseline glass) bowls and I wanted to get a photo of them fluorescing. There are also electric lighters and ashtray/stands, desk clocks, fans, juicers and thermometers, etc.

One major manufacturer of them was Vidrio Products from Cicero, ILL. Here is a link to a small “whipper” but there are full size stand mixers with such glass also.

Thanks mixdenny. I have heard of Vasaline glass but didn’t realize it was made with uranium. Very cool.
