My wife doesn't owe you a damn thing. I, however, owe you a vicious beating.

Sam’s idea would be nice, but it must be done just right.

If Sam’s approach was used with a sneer or sarcastic tone of voice, the effect is ruined. IMO.

What is the “real Christain” of which you speak? Why is forgiveness owned by one religion?

Christ, if he did exist, may have preached of such, but 2,000 years of hatred of others speaking in his name has made any comments irrelevent. Who is not to say that the real Christians aren’t the one who are out to slay the unbelievers? Who is not to say the the real Christians aren’t those like uncle?

Hypocrisy doesn’t make something untrue. A true Christian is somebody who follows the teachings of Jesus. What those teachings were is a matter up for debate.

IOW, I disagree with your premise. In this fucked up world, nothing could be more relevant.

Maybe one has to be a Christian to understand it? I don’t know, but I think I can speak confidently when I say that this uncle is not acting in lines with the core teachings of Christianity. I’m not going to outright say he isn’t a true Christian or not. That seems like an invitation for an endless and futile debate. IMO, if one identifies as a Christian, then they are a Christian. Whether they are a true Christian or not, well we can make partial judgments based on his actions and attitude, but it’s up to God to make the final call.

I don’t know the history of this, but from personal experience I can tell you that as you move toward the charismatic end of the protestant spectrum, you tend to get more and more teachings about the supposed “authority” of the pastor and how not being right with your pastor is tantamount to not being right with God and so on.

I know someone whose main problem with Osama (they claim) is that he does not act submissively toward Jeremiah Wright.

Osama? Really?

:smack: :smack: :smack:

Obama.

Well, I understand that would work even better in the even shorter term, but the crash is pure hell.

I’ve never done speed ball; I always kind of wanted to try, but was advised 'If you don’t like it, it’s a waste of money. If you do, you’re in trouble". That goes at least 10x for a depressive.

Is there any reason to believe that someone calling themselves “the Rhymer” is capable of delivering a savage beating? And since I seem to remember Skald met his wife because he hangs out at the library all the time, I’m doubly dubious.

I picture something akin to this last week’s The Venture Bros.

Complete with the snot!

Just tell Uncle Pastor it’s anointing oil!

And the whole “you’re not being polite” bit.

The more I think about it, the more appropriate it is.

I don’t watch Venture Brothers, so I’ve no idea what you guys ar talking about.

I have a small update, by the way.

The new meds have begun to have an effect, I think. Or hope. Anyway, Mrs. Rhymer says that’s she’s not feeling worthless and despairing as she was last week, and her doctor is guardedly optimistic.

There’s been some fallout from the incident with Reverend Doctor Needledick, but I haven’t had to deal with it. My mother-in-law’s relatives have fallen into three camps: those who think Uncle Fuckwit was entirely right and is due both apology and submission; those who think Uncle Fuckwit was right but phrased things poorly and thus is due an apology, and those who think Uncle Fuckwit is a fuckwit who is due a vigorous baboon raping. I am told that my mother-in-law has informed the members of camps A and B that, if any of them dare suggest that her daughter’s is God’s will or her own fault, she will beat them to death with a framing hammer.

Sadly, I missed this exchange.

Out of curiosity, what is she on now? Also, have any of the Camps bothered to call you or are you getting this info through the mom? Has Uncle Fuckwit made any attempt to comment after the fact?

A hammer used to such noble purpose would indeed be suitable for framing!

Only if she then makes it look like the wife did it.

Prozac, which I’m less than happy about. It seems to be helping, though.
I haven’t heard from any of camps. The knowledge comes second hand from my mother-in-law.

Reverend Doctor NeedsAButtfuck called her cell phone a couple of times Monday and Tuesday, but I deleted the messages.

All that is needed for evil to thrive is for good men to do nothing.

Apologize after admitting he was completely wrong, in front of as many family members as possible…no private apology to save face with camp A and B while placating C.

Assholery of this magnitude cries out for public humiliation.

If hose messages involved anything less than pleading for forgiveness I volunteer to arrange him a speedy meeting with his god for judgement.

Prozac worked for me for a long time, then took a dump. Then I went to Wellbutrin, which worked. Now I’m drug-free for the time being.

I was hesitant to go with Prozac due to the bad press it got years ago, but it did the trick for me for a long time. I hope she has continued good results.
