It makes me disconnect my controller and reconnect at random times within the game. What’s the deal here?
Your xbox is driving your nuts? Maybe you should press the brake. Or you could take control of the steering wheel.
I would have better suggestions but damn, I love the ride so much that I do not want to get off!
You haven’t given a lot to go on, but I’d guess the controller is going bad. Does it still happen if you try a different controller? Are you using a first or third party controller?

How do I make the XBox stop giving me that error message and let me get on with the game already?
Possible problems:
-Bad controller.
-Bad connector.
-Bad Xbox.
Start with the one that doesn’t cost $150 to replace, I’d recommend.
I got this XBox used from a game store. I’ll try a different controller port.

Well, now that I think about it, it sounds like a loose controller port. The Xbox has a feature that detects when the controller is unplugged (along with the dual-connector wire design that won’t pull the 'Box off the table if the cord is tripped on). If the controller loses contact, it’ll pause the game until you fix it.
Your controller probably has a bad connector pin or something. If you know someone else with an Xbox, borrow their controller and try it again.
I got a new controller and adaptor. Everything works fine now.
