My zombie proof fortress of solitude

I had mentioned a few weeks earlier that I was looking forward to moving, and I finally did! I’m very happy with it- its the best combination of price, location, and amenities that I had found. I live in an in-law unit built on top of a garage which is separate from the main house. So far its been the quietest place I’ve lived in, which is a huge plus for a guy who sometimes has to work odd hours and loves his sleep.

I’m not always a hermit, but if I do feel like being left alone I can. My own entrance is up a flight of stairs protected by both a gate and a dog which absolutely loves me to death.

I had wondered how good of a ‘guard dog’ the dog would be- but now I have a good feeling he’d make a decent burglar alarm. When the movers I hired were bringing the furniture upstairs, he was flipping out. He’d be generally ok if I came over to where he was tied up, but if I went to interact with the movers he’d panic. I’d like to think this means he thinks I am a ‘good’ person (since I pet him/play in the yard with him) and doesn’t want me close to ‘bad’ people (strange people with odd body language). He’s also not overly noisy. He does bark at times, but not the kind of dog that barks constantly.

The place is 995 a month, 400 dollars more than my last place. However, factoring in the fact that utilities and internet are included, that difference narrows to 250, well worth the increase. I also have a heater/AC unit and washer/dryer of my own, which is also a first. Assuming I don’t get laid off from my job crosses fingers I plan on staying here for a good long while.
