MySpace has the worst interface of any website I've ever used...

I knew a lot of MySpace pages were ugly, but today my band and I set up a music page on it. I was astonished at how horrible the UI is; we’re all fairly tech-savvy young people, and we were completely baffled by the process of making a MySpace page. Links come and go as you move from page to page, features are buried inside of other, unrelated features, and nothing is well-labeled. It’s not at all clear what links where. I am truly amazed that MySpace has emerged as the dominant band-page site.

If you know code, (even if you don’t much, you can still plug in pre-made codes that way) try using the old “Edit Profile” option instead of the Beta Profile editor. This site has decent graphics, and some ok full layouts. There is a tutorial blog too.

I find it logs me out a lot, sometimes on pages where there’s no login box or link so I have to go back to the home page and log in again.

Back when MySpace was first getting really popular, I found it amazing how they managed to recreate the horridness of GeoCities a decade later.

Oh, please. GeoCities was never as horrid as MySpace.

You get what you pay for.

Have fun when you put your band’s gigs on there…ONE AT A TIME EVEN IF THEY’RE THE SAME WEEK AFTER WEEK.

MySpace sucks like a giant sucking thing.

I read an article once that claimed a “source inside MySpace” admitted everything about the site was made to look deliberately stupid (and the timeouts were intential) to give off an impression that the site was created (and run) by two guys in their basement.

Well, success, then. Two guys in their basement in 1994. And the more people customize their pages, the worse it gets.

Well, to be fair - they’ve gotten better. Just a couple of days ago they launched a new feature where you can categorize your friends. For example, I have high school friends, college friends, family, SDMB friends, bands, etc. It’s a really nice interface. I also like how you see a “feed” of everything your friends have done, like if they post new photos, etc. Before you’d have to manually go through each person’s page to see if there was anything new. Now, you get updates automatically (of course both these features are copied from Facebook).

MySpace may be ugly, but for me nothing beats it for keeping up with all my old high school/college friends, who I would probably never ever talk to otherwise.

This thread is alien to me. MySpace has its problems, for sure, but it’s only as ugly as you make (or keep) it. I’ve created 13 MySpace pages (so far) and haven’t had many problems (and I don’t think any of mine are ugly either). What exactly are you having problems with? What do you mean links come and go? What features are you having a problem with?

At least it’s better than Facebook. shudder

If you’ve ever been timed out and there WAS a login box or link and you tried it but it didn’t work, change your password. You’ve probably been hacked. Never ever EVER type in your e-mail and password unless you are absolutely, positively, 110% SURE that it says www.myspace.com in the address bar of your browser. (keep a sharp eye out for bogus addresses like www.rnyspace.com). The way to be safe is to type in www.myspace.com, hit return. Bookmark the page that comes up. ALWAYS log into MySpace with that Bookmark link (I keep it on my Links area). If you ever get logged out and you didn’t log yourself out, first click on Home to see if you are indeed logged out. If you are, don’t pay any attention to any login box, just use your bookmark.

I was one of the early adopters for myspace and I’ve yet to redesign my profile. That’s because I’ve attempted designing a profile for a few different events, and it’s the most frustrating piece of shit ever. The more you know, the less. It supports CSS, to a degree, but some parts simply don’t make sense.

I’ve customized my MySpace page numerous times with css and have never had a problem. The only glitch is that you’re not allowed to use # in your code, which means you can’t create IDs, only classes, and you can’t put the # in front of hex color codes.

ever try to find your way around on www.rogers.com?

pretty bad.

Myspace causes my internet to lock up. I cannot go to any other webpage on any other tab if one of them is a myspace page. I can’t fathom what it is specifically, it doesn’t seem to happen to other people. My best guess is it’s something about its unholy page weight.
