Since you are not him, I can tell you that the correct answer is that the dictionary is not very clear because indeed Brazil can be included in Latin-America, but not in Hispanic-America. The cited dictionary points on other locations that the emphasis on related words is in the Spanish, the language spoken in the nations that are also in Latin-America. Brazil is not considered part of Hispanic-America, they speak Portuguese.
That’s completely false. The same web site from which I got the definition for “Hispanic” gives the following definition for “Latin America”:

That’s fascinating, because the word “Hispanic” actually derives from the word “Hispania” which referred to the entire Iberian penninsula, including the Kingdom of Portugal. At least according to Wikipedia.

Eh, I dunno about that. I’ve known her for almost 20 years and this is the first time I recall her expressing this attitude. I know this is sacrilege to the current American zeitgeist, but I think there are worse things than being a racist. I’m not going to automatically drop someone for it, unless they’re particularly venomous, action-oriented about it, or repeatedly prove themselves incapable of shutting the fuck up about it. I think we all have racist friends and family but ours are acceptable for some flimsy excuse or another; everyone else should drop theirs, immediately.
One of my friends from work told me a racist joke, and I told him I didn’t think it was funny, that I didn’t share his views. I don’t remember my exact words, but I let him know directly and immediately. I applaud you for taking the time to express to your friend that you don’t agree with her opinion. It is possible to remain friendly with people after disagreeing.
