MySpace Value (money) Question

I was reading in an article, how Tom the guy who owned myspace.com sold to NewsCorp and made something like 500 million, of which he cleared about 100 million or so after taxes and paying out partners. The article also said if he held onto it he’d have made a lot more.

My question is they were basing that worth on myspace today. But didn’t NewsCorp put a lot of value of their own into it?

I know it’s a guess or opinion but would myspace be worth LESS today if Tom still owned it? If you think so how much less. I guess you could also ask what was the value to NewsCorp. It seems to be a lot considering a lot of Fox TV websites are using the MY name and their second “TV network” was called “My Network TV.”
