Ever have some piece of electronic equiptment go haywire on you, not to the point of broken-ness but just to the point of weird?
I’m a realist (not related to realtor…why is that?) and an athiest too. You might wonder how I can juggle both at the same time what with the tight schedules todays society demands on us and all that but I assure that I do both quite well. Well, at least I athi well anyway.
That being said, I have this radio/cd player that only on rare occasions turns itself on and starts playing a CD. I do admit that it is indeed plugged into the wall when this happens so I can easily discount the whole thing. It’s just funny when it happens and it’s also funny what lyrics are being (sang?) sung at the time I happen into the room.
After contemplating in my head (in a negative way) about how full my life is during the day with my family and how my nights are always spent alone, (everyone goes to bed early but me) I happened upstairs to hear the cd player singing “this is what dreams are made of”.
I was trying to install a computer game on my little sister’s computer, but the drive was having trouble reading the CD. We’d had countless problems with her computer, to the point where we were joking about having to call a Catholic priest if we ever wanted to get it working. (Note: She’s running a 200 Mhz system. Yes. I know. And this is an UPGRADE for her.)
So the CD isn’t being read properly. I hit the eject button. Nothing. Hit it again. And again. And again. Nothing. A few seconds go by - when suddenly the drive pops open the CD is still spinning wildly at top speed and it jumps out of the drive onto my lap and then onto the floor, where it spins a few times and finally comes to a stop.
Knew someone once whose car had an electrical fault. It started spontaneously one day while parked at church. It was in gear and lurched forwards into the fence. Apparently this wasn’t an isolated event, but he normally left it parked in neutral to avoid damaging anything.
I have a computer with a mind of its own, too. But let’s not go there.
Currently, I have two posessed bathroom lights over my bathroom mirror. The whole bathroom is just 8 months old, had the whole thing redone. There’s a mirror cabinet, with an electricity unit inside: one socket, and the light switch for the two overhead mirror lamps.
Socket has power 100% of the time. Lights will go on and off as they please. Simultaneously, so it’s not a bulb or something. But as soon as the switch is on, there’s no telling what the lights will do. Sometimes, they’ll go on straightaway. Sometimes, they’ll pop on while I’m in the shower (the bathroom has other light sources as well). Sometimes, they won’t pop on at all, and I forget to turn them off, only to find the lights shining brightly when I get home at night.
I was reinstalling Windows on a machine once and had copied the install files to that hard drive; I pressed the eject button and the drive door opened very fast, coming to the end of its travel so violently that it broke the mechanism.
I dont know how many people have seen the movie The Ring, but right after I saw that movie, I came home and turned the tv on… it was just static… and honestly, I never found out the cause, but I unplugged the TV and slept downstairs.
