Mystery box/packages

Are there any legit mystery box/package companies out there? It seems that every time I see a video of a mystery box unpacking, I later find out that the company being featured is on everybody’s scam list. Are there any legit mystery box companies out there, and what are you experiences using them?

Like you, the ones I’ve checked out are not considered safe.

Amazon does some but I cannot figure out to get in to it.

The grandkids see YouTube of opening and it fascinates them. They’ve been after me to find a kid one.

I think it would be fun, myself.

I’m tryna find out.

As far as I can tell, Amazon itself doesn’t sell mystery boxes of unclaimed items. They just sell other company’s supposed boxes.

I guess, by design, it’s all 3rd or 4th party anyway.

I don’t want to bid on something. I would like to just pay a price and they send it.

Maybe a decade ago, I signed up for a couple of monthly “loot crate” services, which were the hotness back then. One was specifically for role-playing games, and the other was for general “nerd culture.” The boxes would contain a dozen or so items which fit the theme, but after a few months, I realized that, between the two services, I had gotten maybe one or two things which I actually felt were worthwhile; the rest of the stuff wasn’t “junk” per se, but things I would never use, from game systems or fandoms I simply didn’t care about.

So, I cancelled them both.

Amazon sells pallets of returned items. Is that the same thing?

I have heard this, but can’t find a link.

I got’cher’ back, Jack:

CLICK ME

It is a beta program I am not currently a part of, unfortunately.

Is it a “they steal your money” scam or “the boxes are full of worthless junk” scam?

"This program is currently only available in the contiguous US and only enrolled beta customers can make purchases. If you are not enrolled in the program, then you will not be able to add the lot to your cart.

Beta Customer Requirements:

  1. An Amazon Business account
  2. Enrolled in Amazon Tax Exemption Program (ATEP)
  3. Agree to Amazon Bulk Liquidations Store Terms and Conditions

If you are interested in enrolling, you can join our customer waitlist"

That is a lot of hoops to jump through just to get on a waitlist.

Some from column A, some from column B.
Looking for non-scammy column C companies.

There was a company that would ship you a monthly box of random snacks from someplace where you presumably are not, like Japan, Finland, etc. I do not recall what it was called…

Neither. But as has been said-

So, the contents are generally not worth it to most consumers. One or two thing you might buy plus a bunch you wouldnt buy. Not a scam, but not worth it to most buyers.

Universal Yums is one such company. My wife got subscriptions from them for our nieces when they went to college, and they really liked it.

I think there’s two categories we are talking about—

Branded “Mystery Boxes” of goods that you sign up for.

And buying lots of “returns/undeliverable/unlabeled” packages.

Former-- I used to have a Loot Crate subscription for the Fallout Loot Crate. It was really cool for a few years (they sent them out quarterly I think). They came in really nicely branded boxes (tht I still use to store my Fallout merch today) and I’d usually just put the items I didnt want onto Ebay. Then the company become insolvent and then covid happened and they didn’t ship anything for about a year but were still charging people.

The last one I received was in a plain cardboard box with barely any packing material and had only three items and one was a repeat from the year before. But one of the new items was an awesome unique Fallout tiki mug (that luckily didn’t break). Apprently they shipped a few more after that but I had cancelled the subscription at that point. The items in them are pretty rare and I rarely see them outside influencer collections.

For the later, Aliexpress is offering bundles of cheap random packages now.

There’s also a woman on Instagram who does this as her gimmick. “I knew it was a scam, but I ordered it anyway” and then shows the results. Usually its AI ads on social media, but she did a few videos of “random lot packages.” In the first one she got pretty decent stuff in the random packages, but she realized that since she ordered it from her regular email that could be traced to her influencer account, they might have purposefully sent her nicer stuff for promotion. So she ordered from a different email and different address and still received fairly good items.

Yes..Maggie somebody.

I think her YouTubes are cute. But she’s selling clicks, so she might say anything. Who knows?

There’s Steve and Steph as well. They get a bunch of unsold stuff on pallets to resale.

I assume really expensive.

Aldi just recently did a promotion where they were giving away x number of blind boxes over a period of days. I read that people were upset because they’d do everything they were supposed to do, and then they were made to wait in a virtual checkout line I guess. When their wait time was over they were being told that the items were sold out and to try again later. It appears the promo was legit, but the logistics of how it was conducted left people unhappy.

Taking a leap here. I just ordered a food mystery box from Temu, chips, drinks and other things. At least with food they can’t ship me plastic knockoffs or things that are two sizes too small.

I think that the food ones are generally ok. Let us know how it goes.
