I hate to pile on but the refusal of anyone on the admin/modding team to address the larger issue of Haris modding is causing the entire team to lose respect. Transparency in modding is a virtue.
Your opinion, not mine. Jim/What Exit? did tag Hari in post #5, and I don’t think its reasonable to ask other mods to do any more than that. No warnings have been issued I don’t think Ed needs to get involved (and Ed did get involved recently to overturn/review a decision, I don’t remember if it was Hari then.)
I’ll agree simply because there’s nothing any of the other mods can do about it, and they are not allowed to disagree with another’s modding in public. Assuming that they do disagree. From what I can see, there is no accountability and transparency is discouraged.
We try to maintain a fairly high level of transparency, much more so than most message boards.
As for accountability, we are accountable to our admin. We are not accountable to users and we are under no obligation whatsoever to respond to user demands.
You said there is no accountability. That is incorrect. You also said that transparency is discouraged. That is also incorrect. So no, I don’t think everybody gets it.
As you said, you’re in no way accountable to the people who really matter.

I remember a time not too long ago when the mods were active in the discussions about… well… about mod actions. That doesn’t seem to be the case anymore. And that’s a damn shame.
How about transparency can be ignored? It’s nice to finally hear from a mod what they think of posters. You don’t owe posters anything. Then why in the hell did you set up the rule about modding disputes only in ATMB, if you have no intention of responding to them?
Since the majority of mods seem to be in favor of allowing the pitting of posters maybe we should go back to pitting mods also. That way when you totally ignore everyone that you think is beneath you we can at least call you names and speculate about your parentage. You know, just like us lower class people.
I said absolutely nothing about what I think about posters. All I said was that we are accountable only to our admin, which is how this message board has been since day 1. There is no change here.
One mod has chosen not to respond to one thread. In general we have a very high level of transparency and we respond to almost every thread in ATMB.
If some of you choose to turn this into a bitch-fest against the entire staff, this thread is going to close very quickly.
This is true and I think it’s counter-productive for everyone if we try take the actions and non-communication of one mod and try to paint the entire staff with it. That’s neither accurate nor fair.
No, one mod has refused to answer in at least two consecutive threads. And sorry, yes this is new. Mods have usually been pretty responsive to most threads. @Hari_Seldon seems to be all on his own in ignoring threads.
No. I’m not psychic. I can’t possibly speak to what Hari was thinking or intending with his moderation. Demanding answers from the rest of the staff is ridiculous. The only person who can tell you what Hari intended is Hari.
As far as I can tell, any chance of him coming in and explaining himself vanished when the pitchforks came out. He never had any obligation and he certainly doesn’t have any incentive now.
But sure, keep on pinging him over and over again.
As mentioned above, we aren’t supposed to comment publicly on each other’s moderation, except sometimes to agree and add detail.
Well, it DOES require a thick skin to be a mod. But it’s certainly easier for anyone to say, “oops, here’s what I meant” if there aren’t pitchforks being waved. So this is a good thing to keep in mind in general when asking for explanations.
Maybe save the pitchforks for when you think warnings or bannings were wrong, and when no harm has been done (just a mod note) and there’s an actual question of what it means, try to keep the pitchforks in the barn?
