This may be of interest, knowing that there are some old school role-players on the Straight Dope.
From the Kickstarter site:
They have a player preview on their site for those who are interested; you have to register for their forums to get it though. I got it printed out - it’s somewhat like D20 without all the feats and crunch bloat. Saving throws remains as it is in AD&D without increasing saves DC too.
The Kickstarter is 20 hours away from being funded..
It’s interesting, but - 1.) there are a lot of retro-D&D clones floating around right now, and 2.) 2nd Edition is not the point I’d choose to clone from. And I say that as someone who started with 2E - 1st Edition is basically the same, but with added quirkiness and interest factor. I’d consider it the better reference.
Totally agreed. I started with 1E, and 2E is the primary reason that I stopped playing D&D for about 5 years. Of all the editions, 2E holds the least appeal to me.
Have they come up with a way to make 2e-style multiclassing make sense? Or at least some way of setting it up so you can figure out the nonsense without a spreadsheet?
Straight Multicrossing - you basically add the XP requirements of the 2 classes together, average their BAB, saves etc.
Staggered Multiclassing - you level up one class independently, and declare for your next level you will take the first level of a new class. When you have earned enough XP for the first level of the new class, you become of that class. You take the BAB, saves etc. of your old class until your new class gives you higher values.
