I am currently watching a rerun of the episode. You can clearly see on the initial takes that the slate is dated “2/10/06”. At around take 5, you can see that the “2” has been overwritten with “3”. Now, they could have waited a month between takes, but the simpler explanation is that the date is indeed written in “day/month/year” convention.
See, that looks edited to me. The beginning parts of it look exactly like the attempt that almost made it but failed(when the robot got lost). So I thought they spliced it together to show the whole thing for the credits, but never had it go all the way through.
You can now view completely uncut and unedited footage of the Rube Goldberg device on the Discovery channel website: http://www.discovery.com/mythbusters
The clip also clearly shows them cheating at the beginning by using a stick to hit the things after they don’t fall down right. Around the 0:35 mark. The rest looks fair though.
Well, like they said in the show, they usually have weeks, if not months, to plan, construct and execute one of these things. So if they gotta nudge it a bit on a section that had previously worked fine), I’ll cut them some slack.
So Q.E.D., how’s the job with them? Everything you expected?
Would it be a 1920’s-style airplane?
