This is why there’s still a NAACP. It’s a watchdog to stop things from going backwards and to remind us of what’s back there, but it’s guarding the future and the present more than it’s a relic of the past. As with gay rights groups and Jewish groups and every other type of minority groups you do have the professional offenderati element, but the legitimate grievance spotters outweigh them in importance and are the reason they continue to exist.

But why do they have to keep accusing racists of racism when they do racist things? Can’t they just let it go and pretend that everything is OK. Wouldn’t we all be happier that way (and by we I mean racists)?

My position is that both the NAACP defenders and the Tea Party defenders are idiots. Did you have to prove me right so eloquently? Has this thread degenerated into “I know you are, but what am I?” 'Cause if it has, I’m going to line all of y’all on both sides up, kick your asses, and take your lunch money.

What point is it that you think has been proven right so eloquently?

In its time the NAACP has fought Jim Crow. They fought the KKK. They fought segregation. They fought lynching and unjust criminal convictions. They fought the disenfranchisement of the black vote. What has the Tea Party ever done that makes you put the two on such even footing?

There is plenty to defend about the NAACP, the only virtue of the Tea Party is that it is grassroots political activism and we should encourage it for that reason alone but I can’t see any other virtue in a movement that seems entirely about being pissed off that things aren’t going exactly the way they want it too go after they SOUNDLY lost an election cycle.

The TARP program, the stimulus and health care reform weren’t secrets that this administration dumped on the American people after it won the election. TARP was passed under Bush, the first stimulus was passed under Bush and the second stimulus was something BOTH the Republican and Democratic candidates supported (perhaps with the exception of Ron Paul and Ron Paul couldn’t even get the Republican nomination), the health care bill was a centerpeice of several debates and this was a major difference between McCain and Obama and people chose Obama. Nobody was sandbagged here.

I guess there was a little misrepresentation during the campaign when Obama differentiated his health care plan from Hillary’s and then ended up backing a plan that looked more like Hillary’s than his own.

Now I realize that the nation was pissed off at Bush’s Iraq war (and correctly so) and blamed the Republicans for the recession (and correctly so) but NONE of this was shoved down the collective American throats. There was a choice that would have done most of what the Tea party is talking about. Ron Paul and he barely made it out of the gate.
