Name me some girl characters...

I need a bunch of famous girl characters for my kid’s birthday party. They have to be well-known to 8yos, wholesome, and preferably somewhat diverse (not all white blondes). So, like maybe Minnie Mouse, Rapunzel, EVE from Wall-E, that sort of thing. Help me brainstorm, please! Just throw 'em out there.

Meg Murray from** A Wrinkle in Time.**

Dora The Explorer

Akeelah of Akeelah and The Bee.

Mulan

Here’s a few:

Miss Piggy?

Daisy Duck

Grandma Duck

Snow White

Cinderella

The Little Mermaid

The Princess from Aladdin (well, my siblings knew about her when they were that age). ETA: Jasmine! I knew I knew her name!

Princess Leia?

Alice (from Wonderland)

Hermione Granger

Dory (from Finding Nemo)

Dorothy (from the Wizard of Oz)

Anne of Green Gables

Anything else I can think of for now is stuff from my childhood back in the early 80s, stuff they probably wouldn’t know. Babysitters Club, anyone?

Kim Possible? Might have been known to 8 year olds a few years ago, dunno about now.

Kim Possible
Bat Girl
Supergirl
Wonder Woman (do grown-ups count?)
Fiona (Shrek)
Nancy Drew

Pippi Longstocking
Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy

Tasha and Uniqua from the Backyardigans (if they don’t have to be people)
Annie and June from Little Einsteins
Darby from My Friends Tigger and Pooh
Alicia (Diego’s sister)

Gadget? Dunno if Rescue Rangers is still being aired…

For a sec I thought you meant Penny, from Inspector Gadget

Would they know Harriet the Spy?

Lucy Pevensie and Jill Pole from the Narnia books
Laura Ingalls

Betty Boop!

For a sec, I thought he meant Gidget and wondered if kids today would be familiar with 1960s beach movies.

Jamie Lynn Spears

Definitely second Harriet the Spy. Anne of Green Gables. Laura Ingalls. Dorothy Gale.

To get a little more commercial, maybe some of the girls from the American Girl series? Addie, Josefina, Molly, etc.

From Disney, Mulan and Lilo are awesome and definitely not white blondes.

Lisa Simpson

Don’t know about now, but Madeline used to be huge with little girls.

That little girl who lives at the Plaza - little what’s-er-name.

Pippi Longstocking
Lucy, Sally, Peppermint Patty, Marcie
Betty and Veronica
Dot Warner

Nancy Drew (maybe too old school?)
Amelia Bedelia
Mrs. Piggle Wiggle
Charlotte (from Charlotte’s Web)
