Name of plastic roll ground meat package

Some ground meats, typically breakfast sausage and ground beef, are often sold in cylindrical one-pound (or larger) plastic roll packages tied off with a metal clamp at each end. What is the name of that type of package?

I’ve never seen the lumpy chubs before. (And yes, that is what she said.)

Tube steak?

That’s a hot dog.

Generically, you could call it casing. It’s sort of a euphamism for intestine. Synthetic casing when it’s plastic or whatever. Google “cased meats” to see examples. In addition to processed meats, dog food and even roe paste are sold in casing in some markets.

But this is about the on-shelf packaging, not about the edible contents.

In my neck of the woods it is called a ‘chub’, as mentioned upthread. A tube closed with metal clips at the end. The chub packaging is cut open, removed and discarded.

Yep, we call it a “chub” in restaurant kitchens.

I’ve always heard called it a package or roll of sausage. Like in “Pick me up a roll of Jimmy Deans at store at store while you are there for breakfast tomorrow”.

I must say, that’s a wonderful list of examples in the Wiki article:

Some semi-solid food compounds might well result in an explosive slurry.

Yeah, called a “chub” here, unless it’s just generically referred to as a “pack”. I assume the OP has heard it called other things?

I used to have the company which makes Jimmy Dean sausage products as a client. Definitely called “chubs” by them, too.

If that was directed at my post, I said synthetic casing. It’s the outermost packaging in which it’s sold.

Chub is the word I was looking for. I thought that I remembered it and googled it to make sure, but I spelled it “chubb” and everything I saw was about some insurance company. Thanks to all for the correct answer with the correct spelling.

There is an error in this sentence, if you notice. You should have said Tennessee Pride.

You’re not going to get freezer burn with this type packaging, right? So is there any limit on how long frozen meats with this type packaging will be good for?

I noticed a lot of liverwurst-type items sold on a chub basis while at the grocery yesterday.

I froze a few chubs of ground beef when the shit hit the fan last year. It kept up well, but leaked once thawed out. Had to use them quick! Unclear how the package was compromised.
