Name Pronunciation Question

How do you pronunciate Mangione as in Chuck Mangione?

Is it pronounced man-gee-own or man-gee-own-ee?

I pronouce it with the ee sound at the end.

Those appear to be two different questions depending upon whether or not you’re yousing the indefinite “you.” (Ha!)

How do I pronounce it?
How does he pronounce it?

I’ve never heard him pronounce his own name, so I have no idea. Casey Kasem did not pronounce the final “e,” and he’s the one I’ve heard say it the most (several decades ago).

Similarly, OJ Simpson’s first name is “Orenthal,” which I would pronounce “O-REN-thal.” He pronounced it “uh-REN-thee-uhl.” Yep, an extra syllable where one did not appear in the spelling (and with the first syllable unaccented).

Every DJ I ever heard pronounce his name included the final -ee.

He’s a home-town boy and everybody knows his name. And everybody pronounces it a bit differently. The two variations you give are the usual but neither of them may be right.

Buried in this horrifying compilation of emails quoting emails that make you understand how a few hundred emails can print out as 20,000 pages, are various stabs at the way the brothers Mangione (Gap is a great musician, too) pronounce their own name.
