HMS Compass Rose was the rickety, embattled British corvette from the wonderful WW2 novel The Cruel Sea, by Nicholas Monserrat (sp?).

There’s probably multiple ships with that name, but the one that comes immediately to mind the ship that Sir Richard Reed, Susan and John Storm, and Captain Benjamin Grimm are aboard when they had the encounter which gave them their pseudo-elemental powers in Marvel’s 1602 series.
And that’s the one I was thinking of.
Except its not a fictional vessel.
Indeed I think most of the ships in O’Brians work are real ships on which he’s inserted his fictional characters.
