Name that fictional ship!

It is, and also in Serenity it is the designation of the SAR ship that crashed on Miranda – no coincidence.

It’s hard to believe this one’s been overlooked, but I didn’t notice it going through the thread:

Heart of Gold

Probably because its too easy (HitchHiker’s Guide to The Galaxy)

Balance of Judgement
Wrath of Achilles
Resolution of Hector

Brian

Kudos to Tuckerfan! My SO was pleased to see Titan listed. We’ve done the thread from the beginning until now and wish to add:
Potent Voyager
Orion
Erlkonig (accent over o)
Orca
Nebuchadnezzar (poor spelling?)
FedShip ASN/29

I add, funnest thread ever!

It was in my OP.

The *Orca * was the boat in Jaws, wasn’t it?

The *Nebucadnezzar * (I can’t spell it either) was in the Matrix

That’s another Niven, almost certainly from one of the Draco’s Tavern shorts, and I’ll hazard a guess on War Movie.

Now a connected sextet:

Sibella
Kathleen
Triton
Juno
Calypso
Dido

And for a bonus, give me (a) some actual book names and (b) the original name of one of these six.

Right on target.

Hoorah!

Then here’s another one:
Starfare’s Gem.

From Malacandra’s post above
Sibella - Ramage (first book)
Kathleen -Ramage and the Drumbeat
Triton - Ramage and the Freebooters (Also Gov Ramage RN)
Juno - Ramage’s Diamond
Calypso - Ramage and the Rebels (and a bunch of others!)
Dido - Ramage and the Dido

All books by Dudley Pope!

Close enough! Here’s the run-down:

Sibella frigate - Ramage (first book) - Taken over in a sinking condition with the senior officers dead, abandoned shortly after
Kathleen cutter - Ramage and the Drumbeat - Actually “Ramage”, late on. Lost at the conclusion of the second book having been used to ram a Spanish ship at the Battle of St Vincent.
Triton brig - Ramage and the Freebooters (Also Gov Ramage RN) - lost in a hurricane (dismasted and wrecked)
Juno frigate - Ramage’s Diamond
Calypso frigate - Ramage and the Rebels (and a bunch of others!) - Close: Captured (as the Surcouf) in “Diamond”, renamed and given to Ramage in “Ramage’s Mutiny”, then his regular command for nearly all the rest of the series
Dido “seventy-four” - Ramage and the Dido - Whereupon, sadly, Pope became too ill to write further :frowning:

/pleased at finding a fellow fan

A couple of mine have bit the dust (U-96 inspired Das Boot; USS Ruben James was in **The Hunt for Red October ** – although according to IMDB, she was also played by the USS Wadsworth FFG-9, and in one shot the “-9” is visible).

These are still extant:

Arctic Warrior
Louisa
USS Cygnus

Special question: in which movie does the QEII (playing herself) come under a particularly ineffective attack? (The real QEII is shown in an earlier establishing shot, but for the actual attack scene, I’m pretty sure they just used some soundstage trickery!)

USS Cygnus – Starship: The Black Hole

I might not be back so here are the answers.
Duncan

In Search Of The Castaways by Jules Verne: Ship owned by Lord Glenarvon
The Mysterious Island by Jules Verne: Rescue ship owned by Lord Glenarvon

Aesclipus Twenty

Med Ship by Murry Leinster: Space faring medical ship.
The Arctic Warrior is from Ghost Ship (wasn’t *the * ghost ship, but the one that found it, right?)

Yeah, but it needed to be bigger.

My picks still unanswered:
X-1
X-2
X-X-1
Planet Express Ship

Planet Express Ship is Futurama, of course. (It’s just too easy!)

X-1 & X-2 are the Venture Brothers’ vehicles (2 is the boat, right?)

X-X-1 was Jonas Ventures plane

edit to above:

Jonas Venture Junior!
