Name that movie

A co-worker was telling me about his kid’s teacher, and how she reminds him and his wife of some woman in a movie. There is very little to go on here, but you’re all usually amazing at naming a film with very little to go on. This is a film where the “star” is a teenager or young woman, made sometime in the mid 80s to early 90s. She has a short, sort of page boy haircut (by a guy’s description, so don’t fixate too much on page boy). In the film she’s constantly talking and annoying, but cute. According to my cow-orker she may have been one of the “next big thing” sort of starlets that never made it. Oh, and she has dark hair. That’s all I’ve got.

Have at it.

I should add, said cow-orker has somewhat low brow taste in movies, so it may have been something awful.

The thing that immediately comes to mind is Something Wild with Melanie Griffith.

Sounds like Michelle Meyrink in “Real Genius.”

First thing that popped into my head, too. Christ, she was adorable. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hQkf-LmsGZw

I was thinking Natalie Portman from '94s The Professional, although she did kind “make it.” Probably too young there too.

I think the film was a comedy, and I’m assuming that they’d know who Natalie Portman and Melanie Griffith are. I’m checking with him now.

Oooh, that’s another good one, though I’m not sure she was ever a “next big thing” kind of actress.

For the OP, even a tiny sliver of plot info would be handy - comedy, drama, action movie, etc.

Sorry, they got nothing, although I did get the impression it was along the lines of comedy. She’s supposedly the main character/focus of the movie.

He said:

“No, cutier… more conservative…”

to which I asked?

“Both”

(Didn’t ask about “The Professional” with Portman)

Making Mr. Right with Ann Magnuson?

I’m thinking, based on is earlier description, that it’s someone born more 1970-ish than mid 1950s, but I’ll check with him. FWIW, I’ve never heard of that actress or that film.

Kate Reid in “The Andromeda Strain?”

Now I think you’re just messing with me.

Well, yeah. Another possibility is Kim Darby, but I don’t recall her in any chatterbox roles.

Any chance you could get a look at the teacher?

I was thinking that at lunch. Might be easier to work from her to the movie than the poorly described movie back to the teacher.

Kim Darby is WAY too old to fit.

Did they see the movie in the theatre in the late 80’s early 90’s or did they see a much older film on TV.

Heck, they could be talking about Shirley Temple. Talks a lot, annoying as hell, main character, just saying.

Main character is a teen or young adult. Shirley Temple was never one of those; she went straight from childhood star to middle-aged ambassador.
