Please help, I can’t remember the name of this awesome Indian dish, and I would like to know, because it rocked.
IIRC, it’s Aloo _____ ______. It is a dish of potatoes and chickpeas and little crunchy awesome things. It’s very spicy, and served cold. I believe it’s an appetizer as opposed to a main dish, or at least that’s how I ate it.
Please help, I want to know what it’s called so I can find out if I can get it from my local Indian restaurant instead of driving really freaking far (ok, it’s like a 10 minute drive, but I hate driving, and I can walk to the other restaurant).
Usually these names are just the ingredients listed out. E.g. Palak paneer = spinach cheese.
Aloo = potato.
Chana = chickpeas.
Then something else… This might help.
Could it be some kind of bhel puri? I have a kit here and it says to make it with potatoes, onions and bhel (little crunchy rice puffs). You serve with puri (little crackers) and tamarind sauce. Mmmm.
Yeah I knew Palak= spinach, Paneer=cheese, Aloo=potato. That’s about as much as I know. It was definitely 3 words, and Aloo Chana sounds like a good start. I’ll go searching and see what I can come up with.
But before I do, are those little crunchy rice puffs round or not? The crunchy things in the dish I had were maybe an inch long, 1/4 inch wide, thin, and somewhat twisted.
Aloo Chana Chaat recipes look about right, though without the awesome crunchy things. Maybe that’s a regional variation? Either way, I’ll see if they have that at the local restuarant, because it freakin rocks.
