So… I admit I have a problem… I’m addicted to Nanny 911.
Now that I’ve cleared the air… holy slimeball husband batman. When he matter-of-factly told the camera “when my wife bothers me about things, I just tell her she’s fat,” my jaw frickin’ hit the floor. Then he poured on the charm with the “vindictively pinching 6 year old son” and “restraining his son till he hyperventilates” and “encouraging children’s disrespect of wife” episodes. Nanny Stella didn’t give him near the beatdown I expected.
Next week: special marriage counselling episode for the same family.
Your thoughts, reflections and predictions for this trainwreck of a family are encouraged.
There have been quite a few slime ball parents on this show, but this husband just took the cake. Calling his wife fat? Degrading her in front of the kids? Well that’s why they don’t listen to her!
What’s worse- he was flat out abusive. My jaw dropped when he pinched the kid- I mean, granted, he didn’t hit the kid with a two by four, but when dad is acting like a six year old that is bound to cause some damage. Then dad was holding the kid down saying, “my butt you can’t breath!!!” What the holy hell?
This is the first family I’ve seen on this show that I genuinly think would benefit from a divorce. He is a horrible father and husband. Don’t get me wrong, she’s not sunshine and lolipops, either- but damn.
And yes- I, too, am hooked on Nanny 911. I might watch the Marriage show, but I might not because this husband is such an ass I don’t want to watch him more.
Well I’m glad I’m not the only one
Upon further reflection I think Stella didn’t try to do more because the situation was just so over the top. I’ve seen some of the other nannies try and get all on the marital counseling tip, but I think Stella was smart enough to know she was out of her depth.
Did you notice they seem to have fired Young, Blonde, Pretty Nanny and replaced her with Young, Blond, Not-as-pretty Nanny?
Also, I wish they would do a recap show and revisit all the families so far, kind of like the end-of-year special the first season of “Queer Eye.” Just to see who’s really made a change.
I have never watched Nanny911 except for this episode. Someone on another message board I frequent is a close relative of slimeball husband, so I had to check it out. Even with that motivation, I couldn’t watch the whole thing. Yuck.
I agree that Stella saw that it was a much bigger problem and stepped away; there were a few times she looked like she was going to cry though.
I thought I noticed a Nanny switchup, but who knows? Stella is one of my favorites- along with the dark haired, plump nanny (is that another show?)
And Lily…tell them to slap him for us, k?
Yeah, normally, you have one parent who isn’t really checked in (usually the dad) but its more because they are a bit clueless than actually mean. Or sometimes both parents are trying equally, but in conflicting styles, so they are at cross purposes and getting nowhere.
Typically Nanny comes in, explains to parents about consistency, gives the kids chores, institutes consequences for breaking the rules, and everthing perks up significantly in a week. A lot of the time the moms resists the plan because it challenges thier authority, but the dads, once they understand the system, jump on board. A few moms have had attachment issues or been strangely critical (like the mom whose house was a mess but the kids weren’t allowed to make their own beds/clean their own rooms because “they don’t do it right”) but before this episode the parents have all been fairly nice people, making an honest effort, just overwhelmed and confused, and often not considering their children’s perspective on things.
This episode was unusual in the mental cruelty (that the husband is apparently not ashamed to discuss openly on national television) that was on display towards both wife and children.
I agree that the wife wasn’t sunshine and lollipops, but I give her a pass for putting up with the self-esteem beat-down she’s being given by that slime of a husband. Did anyone happen to catch the guy who called Howard Stern’s show this week, saying that his bald-due-to-chemo wife isn’t attractive to him and he wants to “bang other women” and doesn’t even go to the hospital with her? That’s who this husband reminds me of.
They use a different nanny each time. I’ve seen Nanny Deb more often than Nanny Stella. I’ve only seen the thinner blonde once.
Then there’s the much better Supernanny on ABC with Jo Frost as the nanny. I love her. As soon as I have kids, I’m buying her book.
I like both shows, but it seems like the happy ending is more of an editing trick on Nanny 911, than it is on Supernanny.
Hello You nailed it on the head about this episode. This husband is just flat out sick. I feel bad for the wife and I agree it’s great that she is putting up with it for her kids, but she has to see how he is hurting their family. Aye.
Nutty I LOVE JO! That’s the nanny I was talking about! When is Supernanny on?
