But that’s not necessarily bad - as long as you don’t change focal POV mid-scene. Changing from third person limited to two alternating first person narrators is Bad. Every time I change POV it’s from third to first, and I can’t quite explain why I never start in first to begin with. Maybe it’s the whole “they need distinct voices” thing that drives me to attempt third before I realize that’s not going to work.
Surprisingly, I made everything up for the day and then some, since I’m now over 6,000 words. ::knock on wood::
I’ve got at least eight separate POVs thus far, and that’s before I maybe give one to one of the ghosts or somebody’s mother.
But I had an entire afternoon to sit at the security desk at work instead of my own desk. Security means you sit there. Sit there, and do whatever you want. I had a productive afternoon, and I think I might even go to bed early.
I was starting to feel restricted by my note-card system. Sometimes my characters don’t want to go to the place carefully written on all different colored cards because I got all anal about it. I’m still referring to them, but on December 1st, I can’t wait to compare the cards to what actually ended up on the page.
I’m slow out of the gate this time, but I do have a page or so down and I’m going to a writer’s session at the library tomorrow afternoon. I think things will start flowing now though, because once I got those first words on paper they just seemed to come out more easily.
Well, I’m fighting for the honour of my region in a Word War …
Currently on 18,391 words. I’ve been taking a break for the past hour or so, but will be back to it soon enough. Have to break 20k before midnight. Bleah. Obsession. It hurts.
So… does the title have to have something to do with your story? I have no idea what to call my work, but I did abandon a story a couple of years ago (because it the 4400 aired within weeks of starting it, and it had an eerily similar premise) whose title I really liked. I suppose if I salvage it, I can write in a connection to the title, right?
Uh, 729 words, anyone? But tommorrow I am going to a “write-in” at the library, and it will be four hours long, I ought to get more than half caught up.
Earlier in the thread I said my characters were shopping for a turkey. It made me want turkey, so I had to go get one. Turkey is helping my output since now I’m up to 5325. Still way behind, but getting better.
I have maybe 4k words right now. And 1k of that isn’t even typed up–it’s from the local write-in yesterday. I keep meaning to work on it, but I’m been so unmotivated to do anything lately it’s hard to find the interest. Which sucks, because when I do bother to do some writing I have a lot of fun with it.
I’ve got 7853 words so far. Not up there with some people, but it’s ahead of schedule, so I’m not going to let myself be frustrated by the insane people who are ahead of me.
I’m beginning to wonder if the story will get to 50000 words, though…I’m not even at 10000, and I’m already padding out scenes so I don’t need to jump to things that aren’t meant to happen until the second half. (Including bringing in things I wasn’t planning to use unless I did a sequel next year!.)
