NASA Finds 1.7 Million Year Old Man-Made Bridge

PLease delete if this has been covered.

Is this the final proof we need to blow the fundies out of the water ?

Or is it the final proof the fundies need to sink us ?

NASA FINDS 1.7 MILLION YEAR OLD MAN MADE BRIGDE

Okaaay…you got this information from www.rense.com which is the website of a Jeff Rense…who the hell is he? There was so much flotsam on his site, I could not even begin to determine what he was proposing, nor the authenticity of HIS sources. Can you fill us in here a bit??

“Recently discovered?” (according to that cite) It’s labeled on “The New York Times Atlas” from 13 years ago.

The link to the Hindustani Times doesn’t work, so it’s hard to know what the page’s author has in mind.

Its curvature indicates it’s manmade? Hardly.

An 18 mile bridge built a million years before the oldest, crude city known?

Boy, those aliens sure knew how to build 'em.

pffft disregard it … nasa never said it.

Don’t apologize, Trader–we LOVE debunking this kind of stuff. That’s kinda what the SDMB is all about anyway–the Fight Against Ignorance. We get people in here all the time with links to even stranger things, asking, “Is this for real?” So never apologize for asking.

Rense is a so-called “news” website that specializes in the oddball, the strange, and the out-and-out paranormal, with the occasional side trip into Conspiracy Theories. He isn’t what you’d call your “serious news website” (she said with deep irony).

There really is a thing called “Adam’s Bridge” and NASA really did take pictures of it, but it’s a collection of sandbars and reefs across Palk Strait–it’s not manmade.

NASA photo, from the STS-75 mission; that’s the continent of India with the tip pointing to the left (it’s actually south), and you can see Adam’s Bridge leading off to the right towards Sri Lanka, which is mostly under the clouds. It’s taken from a slightly different perspective from the OP’s photo, which was from the STS-59 mission, the original NASA photo of which is here. I’m not sure why it’s so dark–maybe Rense tidied it up, maybe 'cause it’s low-res. But it’s definitely the same photo–look at the cloud patterns.

Explanatory text to photo.

There’s another photo of it here. Compare this with the map, here. What you’re looking at in this NASA photo is the island of Sri Lanka, laid on its side, with its north hook-shaped end curving around to the left, towards the coast of India. And Adam’s Bridge shows quite clearly, going up to the top of the photo, which is actually west, as you can see on the map.

On the OP’s photo, Sri Lanka has done a complete 90 degree turn, with its north-facing hook end now facing east, and with the coast of India now on the right (east).

Big atlas picture, showing the relation of Sri Lanka to India.

So… the proto-human of 1.3 million years ago with about 2/3rd our brain capacity was engaged in cooperative, large scale engineering projects?

Mmmmmmkay.

Yes, because the aliens told them how to do it.

sheesh, do we have to explain everything?

Aliens, shmaliens! Haven’t you ever read about Rama? That’s the bridge the army of monkeys built for him!

That’s right, it’s Hanuman, the Monkey God. So it’s the 1.7 million year old (Hanu)man-made bridge.

1,750,000 years ago: Man builds a bridge.
1,749,996 years ago: Man sells bridge to other, less intelligent man.

Trader–hello from a fellow Farker. I think another Fark thread proved that this rense.com site is full of shiat.
