NASCAR Mudsummer Classic: Trucks on Dirt!

Anyone watching this? For the first time in 43 years a NASCAR national touring series is racing on dirt! Eldora Speedway (Tony Stewart’s track) is hosting the race.

I’m not the most ardent NASCAR fan and I’ve never been to a dirt track. The race so far has held my attention which is more than I can say about some of the NSCS races this year. I wish more of the truck regulars were racing tonight (some teams brought in dirt “ringers”). While this is not something that I would like to see on a regular basis–after all, this is more of a gimmick race than anything–it’s a nice change from the same old mile and half tracks they usually run.

I’ve heard some say that NASCAR should drop dirt on the track at Bristol for a Cup race next year. That would be insane!

What a race! The last heat with Austin Dillon holding onto the lead with Kyle Larson and Ryan Newman rubbin’ and bumpin’ for 2nd and 3rd was probably the most exciting segment of racing I’ve seen this year. Overall the racing was great, proving that it’s NOT about speed!
