National Day of Prayer

On Tuesday, September 11, 2001, we suffered the greatest tragedy of most of our lives. This is a time of great sorrow, suffering, and pain. And though, these times have caused a great weight on our hearts, we must press on.

The reality is that most of us have watched as the truth has been revealed in a most horrible way. The truth that, no one is promised tomorrow or even the next minute. A time to hide our heads is not upon us. No, quite the contrary, this is a time for America to stand tall. A time to tell all those who would oppress the innocent and unsuspecting, that they might take airways, our security, and even our lives. But, the sun will rise tomorrow and with it, so will the hope of the people of this land. It is incumbent upon us all to, come what may, face today. Not with fear of what has happened, but with hope of what we can do from it. We have not been given a spirit of fear and timidity. Our strength is our hope.

And so, it is with hope that we will face each new day. Knowing that today we will stare adversity in the face, and we will not be moved. May the hope that has brought us all together be the strength that carries us through tomorrow. May we never forget the tragedy, but even more so, may we never let it make us lose our hope.
