Other than the humorous, but not unexpected, financial troubles that liberal radio is having, I find it supremely ironic that said liberal radio is kicking minority-interest radio programs off the air.
Milum, you seem to have forgotten the fifth (or as I call it, “true”) reason:
(5) They’re still on the air in Portland, New York, Minneapolis, online streaming, and XM and Sirius satellite radio. The broadcast was pulled off the air in two cities due to a contract dispute with the owner of the stations.
And AM radio is NOT? Especially low-wattage stations like WNTD? (1000W non-directional during the day, 5000W directional at night)
I never bothered listening to it. This liberal doesn’t appreciate folks whom he mostly agrees with telling him what to think any more than he does having the conservative crowd do it.
Free market in action, bro. Those were “minority interest” stations because those groups ponied up the rent, not because of some Congressional mandate.
(AM-950 in Chicago? Didn’t that used to be Les-Bi-Gay radio for a while?)
Barely on in Minnesota is more like it. Tried to listen to it during its first couple airings and it kept going in and out. Finally got sick of all the phasing and just tuned in NPR.
Aside from some minor masturbatory conservative porn for Milum and Brutus, what’s the debate here? Only thing I can see is whether Arthur Liu (MultiCultural Radio) or Evan Cohen (Air America) is in the right/wrong.
Air America kicked nothing off the air. The owners of multiple stations, among them minority-focused WLIB in New York, WNTD in Chicago, and KBLA in Los Angeles, allowed Air America to lease time on their stations. It was the station owner’s choice to allow Air America to use their signal.
And not all minority representation is lost. The owners of WLIB, Inner City Broadcasting, have dedicated the period from 12am to 5am to “Black issues programming.” Chuck D, from rap group Public Enemy, co-hosts Unfiltered, and is the host of Bring The Noise, where he, along with three co-hosts, “share their perspective on politics, community and music…” Mark Riley, a black man and former host on WLIB, hosts Morning Sedition. Al Franken, host of The O’Franken Factor, is jewish.
FWIW, I had no trouble listening in the shower yesterday afternoon.
Finally, a correction. Air America is not currently available on Sirius, but will be within a week.
MultiCultural, a broadcaster specializing in ethnic radio, is in a breach of contact dispute with Air America, a liberal talk radio program. This dispute has led Multicultural to quit broadcasting Air America in two cities. MultiCultural says Air America has not paid them. Air America contends that contends that it intentionally withheld payments to MultiCultural because its subsidiary station KBLA was illegally reselling airtime already paid for by Air America.
Therefore, liberal thinking is antiquated and out of touch with America.
Well, it may be, but it doesn’t logically follow from the facts as given. This is a simple contract dispute. It’s like saying Coca-Cola is involved with a lawsuit with two of its distributors, therefore America hates Coke!
No, Milum, this is about Air America. That’s what your entire OP was about. You’re not going to get away with hijacking your own thread just because you’re dead wrong.
Dern you Blowero, I can’t slip nothing by your sharp pointed mind. I meant “bray”. Horses whinney. Mules and donkeys bray. So of course you are right…the American people are tired of listening to the mindless braying and whining talk of liberal Democrats.
cheddarsnax:
Drat it cheddarsnax, you stop being persnickerty right this minute.
Follow the associations…
Liberal Talk Radio has failed once again to capture an American audience.
Paying sponsors won’t sponsor talk radio propaganda programs that have no listerners.
Even if these shows were mandated by laws and tax dollars no one would listen. Mainly because liberals have no sense of humor.
Whom do you trust? Fickle public opinion polls or millions of good citizens who are thoughtful enough not to listen to liberal rancor and rants on talk radio?
____Therefore…
President Bush will win re-election by twenty-five points.
I’m trying to see how any of these points follow from the fact that a legal dispute which they have at least partially won took them off the air in some but not all of the markets, not low ratings.
Seems like you just read the headline and started fantasizing from there rather than bothering to look at what it was about.
Enough! I had to clarify the GD rules regarding this just recently because I was getting so sick of this sort of thing. Just calling something “conservative porn” or “fundie porn” or “liberal porn” or whatever, OK. But STOP saying other posters are masturbating to it! If people want to read descriptions of poster’s sex lives they can go to MPSIMS. [sub]kidding[/sub]
