National Liberal Raido Goes Dark

Milum: I’ve gotta go with the other guys. There will be no 25 point victory for anyone. If you want to talk landslide, you’re in the range of perhaps a 6 or 7 point margin - say, 53 to 47. A difference in votes of just a few percentage points could be a landslide electoral college win.

In today’s environment, even a 10 point spread between any two Presidential candidates would be an amazing feat.

Maybe he means 25 electoral votes. But even then…

True enough. But the other guys can’t manage anything but money.

That’s because the pursuit of money is the root of all that is good.

No, the real problem is French Impressionists. Love of Monet is the root of all evil.

It is true, Brutus. Saying they kicked something off the air implies that they removed that programming against the wishes of those producing said programming, and also specifically targeted that programming for removal from the airwaves. Obviously, that’s not what happened. The owners of the stations simply agreed to lease broadcast time to Air America.

I still don’t see anything to debate here, other than a couple of resident conservatives having wild fantasies by misinterpreting a contract dispute. (There, no use of the M-word, okay? ).

On the other hand, Air America Radio must be doing something right if they can provoke such knee-jerking schadenfreude out of the resident Pubbies. Maybe they even contributed to AAR’s record-breaking internet demand, or the rapidly-growing list of broadcast outlets…

His post was obviously a joke. And you missed it. Which proves his assertion that

Millum doesn’t start jokes. Conservatives don’t feel, remember.

Given that there’s only a tenuous connection at best between your initial observations and your apparent conclusion, this qualifies more as a matter of opinion than a matter for debate.

How about - Liberal mainstream media (TV networks except Fox News)thoughts are out of step with the thinking of mainstream American thoughts. More recent media such as Fox News, Rush Limbaugh, and Sean Hannity have multiplied and grown rapidly over the past decade or so because people desire viewpoints other than the ones spoonfed to them by Dan Rather.

I cannot get it over the internet today, it just says “Please come during broadcast hours” or something similar. It’s 9:30am, that’s certainly within their broadcst schedule. I use RealAlternative, not the true RealPlayer, but that worked fine last time I tried to listen (but that was a couple weeks ago).

Anybody else not able to list today? Maybe the plug was really pulled.

I think it could work, if it is entertaining. Which is the ultimate determinant of any media presentation, not ideology. If these liberal hosts are entertaining and amusing they will succeed. If not, they will not.

So my initial inclination was to think that it would succeed, seeing as they seem to have hired primarily entertainment type people, instead of politicians. But my brother has listened to it (I don’t think it is available in my area) and he says it is boring beyond imagination. No humor and no substantive discussion of any issues. Only shrieking about Bush and the Republicans being evil beyond belief. This is also entertaining to a subset of the population, but only a small subset (though disproportionately represented on the SDMB). So my inclination is that it will fail.

Possibly their problem is that the entire purpose of the network is to present a liberal viewpoint, which leads them to emphasize the political angle too heavily. And the entertainment background of the hosts leads them to focus on politics in an unsubstantive way. Which leaves them with nothing.

But I could be wrong, and, as mentioned above, this is all based on the impressions of one person.

Do you have a citation for Milum not being able to continue making factually unsupported assertions?

He seems to be fairly determined, and hasn’t stopped yet.

I want in on the action.

Let’s bet Milum.

From anyone but Milum, the post would be a joke. Take a look at his posting history. He’s either dead serious or absolutely insane. Or both.

My cite is myself. I’ll personally poke Milum with a pointy stick until he stops.

I can’t get it either. I think they require registration (free), but I did register and log in and I still can’t get it. Anyone else?

However this recent news article says they are to get back on the air in Chicago today.

One of my all time favorites. Love it when you guys haul that one out for an airing. So, I’ll ask again: how’d we do it? How did we Perfidious Liars[sup]TM[/sup] manage to subvert a board dedicated to debate based on evidence and substantiation? Did we send out message across the conspiracy to gang up on the SDMB? Was it marching orders from Der Hilary?

Or is it simpler than that, that reason and evidence are on our side, that our case is well founded in fact?

Your statement may well be true, but it buggers the question: if we are disproportionately represented…how did it happen?

As if you were ever any better, Brutus…

Unlike other conversatives who post to this board, I’ve never seen that you have anything substantive to say.

A couple of points:

  1. Do not assume that conversative radio is more representative of Americans simply because it has been more popular lately on AM radio. Liberals are much more likely to tune into informed news sources, such as NPR, than listen to blatantly malinformed, partisan radio “entertainment.” If liberal radio does nothing more than that (a la Rush), I predict it will fail. Liberals want credibility in their political commentary.

  2. Do not assume that the growing pains of a new radio program are indicative of its lack of viability.

  3. Hi opal!

Yes, it’s the Vast Left Wing Conspiracy, funded by Barbra Streisand et al, and in partnership with the National Gay & Lesbian Recruitment Task Force

Oh. I hadn’t thought of that.

Seriously, I’ve discussed this before. With you, in fact. Not here.

Honorificabilitudinitatibus

It gets no substantiver. (Well…)
