National Novel Writing Month 2005--Who's In?

I’m in, for the third time. And there’s a Doper thread over on the NaNoWriMo forums, in case anyone hasn’t seen it yet.

Oops, sorry about the double post.

I’m in! I just have to decide between Victorian murder mystery set in England or Lead Rush murder mystery set in Wisconsin. Hmmm. I’m predicting I make it to five hundred words and then realize I have four midterms in November. Eep!

Right, I’m in. God only knows what it’s going to be about, though I imagine it’s going to be trashy wish-fufillment-ey semi-autobiographical nonsense.

Yay!

I’m in, too, for the very first time. Huzzah!

(P.S. Suse, where is the Doper thread over there?)

I’m in! I’ve got an idea I foolishly mentioned to some of my students, so I’m going to challenge them to join, too! Fun for everyone!

I signed up for it. I don’t know if I’ll be able to write 50k words; that’s a lot more than I’ve ever written, but I’ll try my best.

When it comes to writing, I tend to sit and obess over every word being perfect. I’ve heard the “just get it down, you can go back and revise later” advice before, but I’ve never quite managed to follow through on that. Maybe this will help.

I think if I can actually get 50k words out, it’ll be good, because even if they suck I’ll have a base I can go back to and work on, and rewrite, post-November, rather than 1000 words on page and a lot of unrealized ideas in my head, which has been more my style.

November sucks for me. :frowning: Traveling for work, end of the year chaos at work, moving the girlfriend (and her 2 dogs) in with me (and my own 3 cat, 1 dog zoo) from out of state…none of this screams quality time to focus on 50,000 words.

But I do have a fledgling storyline and I’d like to see what I can do with it…someday. sniff

It is fun to have others read it. And, if anyone is foolish enough to want to read mine, they are welcome to it! But we didn’t have anything set up last year to facilitate it.

We could probably come up with something if people are interested.

I’m in. I’m trying desperately to come up with a plot and characters (hey, I only decided to do it for real ten minutes ago! Give me a break!), so hopefully, by Tuesday, I’ll have a loose outline and some characters doing some stuff with other characters and maybe a story’ll come out of it.

E.

Yes it disqualifies it, inasmuch as you cannot use prose written before November 1st. So, for example, after last year’s NaNo I started typing again and had another story going, but I didn’t like where it ended up going and really started to dislike it. So, I’m scrapping the whole thing and starting anew, without any of the text that I had already written. I checked this in the rules forum and they said that’s okay. It would be against the rules to use the prose you’ve already written; however, you can scrap the text and start over and I think that’s okay.
Oh, and to answer the OP, I’m definitely in.

I’m so in! I shouldn’t, since I really need to get better grades this semester but I’m somewhat miserable just doing classes and work and not having a creative outlet.

I have been trying to write more on my recently, but I fall into the traps of too harsh critiquing and of not getting very far since I have nothing specific to work for. So this should help.

One problem I have is that I have no idea what to write about. Has anyone read the book they sell in their store “No Plot? No Problem!” ? It sounds like it could help, but it doesn’t have much description of it.

I’m in I’m in I’m in!

happydances

Had such a bad day, but this made up for it!

I’m in. I also get the doofus prize for starting a dupe thread.

I’m in. I bombed out last year trying to write by hand. This year will be different: my new (used) laptop should arrive any day. I have one page of outline, no character development, and I’m liking it that way. Last year I was bored and frustrated by the tenth of November. I felt penned (hyuck) in from all the character development and plot outlining I did before I started writing the actual novel. I didn’t feel free to write, I felt obligated to write, and it really sucked the fun out. This year my outlook is a little bit different, as well are my feelings. I’m looking forward with glee, not dread of failure. I’ve had the failure so that pressure’s out of the way. I know I can’t do worse than '04.

Here.

I want a laptop…that’s going to be my major goal for next year, getting a laptop for Nano!

I’m in. I’ve played before two or three times and never finished. So this time I signed up as a muni liason. Even if I don’t finish again, I’ll meet a few people.

(If you’re in the Stockton, California area, check out the Stockton Forum on the NaNo boards. There’s a kickoff meeting being planned.)

This year I’m doing a prequel to a short story that I acutally finished. I figure that should give me some momentum.

Good Luck to everyone willing to play this wonderful game.

I’m back for the fourth times. Years 1 to 3 I wrote a fantasy trilogy. This year…I’m not really sure. Maybe a thriller, maybe horror.

Most likely a horrible thriller.
