"National Opt-Out Day" -- Aw, Fuck!

Maybe it would be a good day to make about 10,000 small stamped out metal plates in the size/shape of a variety of small handgun models just so EVERYONE who goes through sets off every alarm and or detector array.

Then hand them out in the parking lots

Penis ensues.

So the pilots, many of whom are ex millitary and are probably so squeaky clean they could get security clearances higher than God are not trustworthy, but the low paid minimally skilled flunkies just stroll on through?

There isnt enough :smack: in the world for that.

sweet jumping jebus I have a security clearance … and have held various ones since I was 18. Unless you want to take into account that I was an army brat, and used to live in base housing as well … I think I have been checked out by the government more than enough to not worry about me.

Not only that, but recall that as we’re all forced to walk barefoot through the filth and the TSA throws away the nail clippers of soldiers returning from Afghanistan who aren’t flying commercial and are all carrying weapons and questions the contents of your baby’s sippy cup, 1 in 3 pieces of cargo on domestic flights, including cargo on passenger flights, is never screened.

Damn. That’s creepy.

Ahh, but the creative minds of the world have a solution to that problem.

So what is happening? Mass chaos? Operations as usual?

Operations as usual, from what I’ve witnessed locally and heard from co-workers around the country.

What I’m hearing reported is a lot fewer people flying than expected.

Enjoy the lack of money, airlines.

I’ve been wondering about this. Two times in the past two years I have driven 8 hours rather than fly 1 1/2 just because of airport crap (security, baggage, etc). When I get to my destination I don’t have to pick up a rental. I’m liking it.

For vacationing in the Caribbean, I’ll still have to fly. But I have cut my flying from 3 times a year down to one. Is this common?

The news articles I’ve found have simply been reporting that security lines have gone pretty smoothly, more so than most people expected. Whether that’s because of a lack of people or the security procedure has been made more efficient than normal is not apparent from the articles.

Denver International is expecting a record number of travelers this weekend, for what that’s worth.

Right. I was listening to the local newsradio who had a reporter there, and he was repeatedly stating, ‘this is unusually light traffic’. And considering he was wandering around JFK, which is one of the busier in the nation… I think numbers might be interesting.

Well, I’m about to see first-hand. Wish me luck.

Interesting how you can automatically attribute this to be TSA-related, rather than having anything at all to do with economic conditions, airline capacity, or any other reason. Not like most travelers had already purchased airline tickets for holiday travel well before this brouhaha, or anything.

As another poster pointed out, Denver is expecting record numbers. They’re not alone.

There was an article about how flights went down six percent when the TSA started bothering people.

I’m not blaming this storm for anything, just the general unpleasantness of flying these days. We’ll see what the numbers look like after the weekend.
