It may not be parody, but it is using an over-the-top example to make a point. As did Swift. Sheesh.
Neener-neener yourself.

BTW, What is the CN Tower actually for? Also, is it true that all accross Canada there are secrect hangers holding AVRO Arrows, ready for the invasion?
Goldberg isn’t even a poor man’s version of Swift. He couldn’t carry Swift’s jockstrap, assuming Swift had one.
Goldberg is a typical Gen-X wannabee writer. He’s lucky to be alive in a world that suffers from crap journalism. He’d be working in a minimum wage job back in the 1950’s-60’s.
The CN Tower is for promoting tourism in Toronto, and embarrassing the rest of Canada when Ontarians make comparisons between it and real towers. “WTC? Our tower’s taller!” Yeah, but it’s just an elevator up to a revolving restaurant and a couple of cheesy tourist attractions-- like Seattle’s Space Needle, with pretentions.
And yes, we do have a secret cache of AVRO CF105’s – at the bottom of Lake Ontario.
As for Canadian military spending, when ever there’s any push to rebuild our national defenses, the Liberals (Yankees note-- this word does not mean the same thing in Canadian politics, our Liberal Party are blue-nosed conservatives, and are the Canuck equivalent of the GOP – all the other parties are actually left of them,) manage to turn it into free money for their buddies at Bombardier.
Ah, we can dream, can’t we? What a beautiful plane; what a beautiful sight it would be to see 300 Arrows running practice manouevers in the clear Moose Jaw skies. What a Canadian tragedy (the death of the Arrow, not Moose Jaw, that is.)
Oh yeah, and the CN Tower is actually a first-strike launch vehicle. The restaurant is actually a nuclear warhead. You’d know that if you’d ever eaten there.
Hardly. The Liberals are moderates that lean slightly right economically and slightly left socially. The Alliance is the Canadian equivalent of the GOP in almost everything except broad-based public support.
Heh- In BC it’s all too easy to ignore the existence of the Canadian Alliance. They seem more like an abstraction or comic fiction than a real political party.
(Excuse me, I’m just going to put my head back in this nice warm sand and pretend that the “Redneck Party” hasn’t really made the gains it has in the last five years.)
:wanders off, muttering to self:
There isn’t the slightest need to bomb Canada, espcially as that would put strategic reserves of whale blubber at risk.
Raise thier rent. That’ll do it.
Actually, it was built as a [telecommunications tower](http://www.cntower.ca/information/l3_info_aboutus.htm#The Tower).
We rent it to the UN who use it to beam leftist messages into the brains of Americans who forget to wear their tinfoil hats.
Ever wonder why every evening the news out of Buffalo is “Fire in Tonawanda” or “Fire in Cheektowaga” or “Fire in Lakawanna”? It’s the intensity of the mind control rays heading toward New Mexico.
That’s an odd characterization for the Liberals. That is, it’s wrong.
The Liberal party in Canada would be on the left of the Democrats. The Liberal party opposes gun ownership, supports national health care, supports the Kyoto treaty, is destroying the military, and supports leftist policies like hate speech laws, forced multiculturalism, progressive taxation, etc.
Here’s where Canada’s political parties stand in comparison to the American parties:
Alliance: To the right of the Republican party, slightly. About in line with the southern conservative Republicans. Would feel comfortable with the ‘religious right’ in the U.S.
Tory: To the left of the mainstream Republican party, due to their support for nationalized health care and other social programs. However, most Tories would probably self-identify as Republicans were they in the States. The ‘Red Tories’ would be Democrats.
Liberal: To the left of the Democrat mainstream - about in line with with the liberal members of the Democratic party like Kennedy or Nancy Pelosi.
NDP: Socialists. Would be mostly in agreement with Nader’s green party. In fact, lots of Canadian Green Party members are NDP.
There you go. Now when you Americans hear us talking about Liberals or Tories, you can pigeonhole us! (-:
Sure. If we cared.
The CN Tower is the world’s largest phallic symbol.
However, it’s quite a beautiful part of the skyline. I can see it from my balcony. You must admit it makes the Toronto skyline unique… but it’s just a big phallic symbol.
At least it’s the world’s largest…
Ahh good old fashioned Western angst. Show us the way brother! Tell us how if we stop equalization payments and allow those in the West despite the fact they have less population dictate our policies how much better a country this would be.
Snore… Last time I checked economically Toronto is the business centre of Canada (Edmonton Stock exchange… nope there ain’t one) You don’t like the East, then join these knuckleheads .
Ahh good old fashioned Eastern arrogance. Tell you what: You can keep your payments, and we’ll keep ours.
And because the East has more people, that means they are automatically the better choice to dictate better policy?
And better policy for who?
Economically Toronto is the business centre of Canada? Guess so. Thieves and other low lifes do seem to have a way of gaining and maintaining control over things that are near and dear to them.
Maybe it’s time for me and mine to take another look at the knuckleheads. Probably wouldn’t be any worse than being manipulated and dictated to by the pinheads.
I guess you forgot that we are a single country and those equalization payments are designed to help all Canadians. Now I’m sure that when the oil wells dry up or there is a drought you will have a better understanding of why we need these to help out those in provences where despite their resources are still not doing well. (IE Newfoundland)
You call me an Eastener but I think of myself as a Canadian first. I dispise the idea of regionalism when it leads to such petty squabbling.
Lets face it The rest of the country does tend to be repelled by the louder reactionary voices that have come out of west lately because they tend to have that narrow minded self serving tone. Essentially they have a “screw the rest of the country” attitude.
Wonder why the Alliance can’t get a foothold in Ontario despite out Conservative Majority on the provincial level?
We live in a democracy that had representational government based on population. The greater the population the greater number of seats. If that doesn’t seem fair to you try to think of an election where the minority of the population dictates to the majority. Is that more fair?
Now you should be ashamed of that statement. That would be equal to me saying all Westerners all close minded bigots who beat their wives and are so backwards the believe in creationism. Quite a big brush to paint with and I don’t believe my statement any more than you should believe yours.
My guess is you didn’t read the site very well did you? I’ll give you the benifit of the doubt and point out some of there open minded fair policies
*** end to immigration to preserve our environment, culture and stability.
Equal rights for all, with no special status for any race, or ethnic origin.
Preservation of our Christian culture and European heritage.
One official language of Western Canada. ***
Now if you still wish to condone that kind of racist undertone that is your damage. But that is the main reason I call these people knuckleheads.
Boy, that brings back memories of living in the Niagara region and watching the evening news from Buffalo. The enduring impression I have of Buffalo are the reports of fires every evening. But then that was the case even before the CN tower was built. Prior to the CN tower we had the Brock tower. However maintenance problems due to Isaac’s falling limbs required the modernized approach of prestressed concrete and steel.
Not such an accomplishment, anymore.
Oh, goodie-- a nice old-fashioned East-vs-West Flamewar (snowball fight?)
Myself, I love Eastern Canada. Well, the geography and populace, anyway.
Um, the Chretien Liberals have slashed transfers for medicare and other social problems, by hundreds of millions of dollars, reduced the budget for social housing to zero, privatized student loans (increasing already-gross levels of student debt), and gave tax cuts of $100-billion (with a B) in the 2000 budget alone. I don’t know by whose definition that’s leftist, but it isn’t mine.
