National Shopping Day. What did you score big on?

I was out at 6am and only did two stores:

Joanns for some patterns and notions.

And then I moseyed over to our 24/7 Everything Under One Roof Meijer, and scored big time on:

Board games:$4.50 a peice ( regularly $9.00) (bday gifts for next year.)
Different board games $3.00 ( regularly $8.00) (bday gifts for next year)

Handheld computer chess game:
buy one at $14 get one free!( one for my nephew, one for me)

Handheld computer casino game/calculator: same price/deal as above. (one for the nephew/one for me.)

Two kids keychain computer games for about $6.00 total. ( being used for a road trip next summer.)

A few other things as well, but after that, I went into a haze and had to leave.

I was really happy.

Paid cash too.

Even better.

i bought a new reindeer hat. the nose lights up.

I played in the snow.

I got a calender from Waldenbooks and some lipgloss from the mark sales rep. And then I went shopping for groceries this evening.

It was a boring day.

FYI (to those who don’t know)…the biggest shopping day of the year is the Saturday before Christmas. This is the biggest attended shopping day of the year.

I got a big headache and still didn’t buy a thing.

fizzy and her mother, after roughly 50 hours of shopping today (somehow fit in betwen roughly 9:30 and … oh, about 6), came home with about as many bags. Her mother says they got them all for $8.

And what’s more, there was stuff in those bags that one might actually desire, so it’s not like they got a bunch of bags with nothing in them. That would have been most bizarre.

I scored big on sleep. Oh yes, sweet sleep. While the lemmings were out buying crap, I was warm in my bed, dreaming of places where crass consumerism is merely a myth.

I went to BestBuy at 6am, got out of my car, walked over and looked around the corner, and the line was about 3 blocks long(the first guy in line got there at 9pm the previous night). I said forget it, and drove over to Kohl’s, it had to be less people.

I got out of the car, walked into Kohl’s about 6:08, looked at the line to check out, it was at least 50 yards long. All I wanted to get there was a calendar for my neice, half-price. I said forget it and walked back to Best Buy.

I figured by now all the people would be in and it wouldn’t be so bad. I saw the line was still around the corner at 6:20 and said forget it. People were still in line to get in the store as people were walking out. All I really wanted was a cordless phone which was a special at $4.99 and to use my 4 $5 certificates on other crap. I figured the line to buy would have been ridiculous.

I went back after work, about 6pm. Walked into Best Buy and picked up a cd softare for my nephew, and tried to use my certificates. No go. You can only use one with a purchase. Great, now I have to go back 3 times to use them.

Then I drove over to Kohl’s again. Walked in the deserted store, they were sold out of the calendar. So I picked up 2 frying pans I need. Wait! If I spend $40 on Regal(?) cookware, I get a $20 rebate. So I pick up some mixing bowls to put me over the hump. Wait! If I spend $50 at Kohl’s (and I’m at about $43 now) I’ll get a $10 certificate. So i pick up a picture frame for myself. I get the $10 certificate! I go back today to use it on a pair of jeans for me(i’ve lost 10 lbs!), I can’t-it’s only good next week, and you know those jeans will be priced $10 higher next week.

I’m done shopping for a while, this is too traumatic for me. :smack:

After my experiences at the Target and JoAnne’s slaes last year, this time I prudently stayed home and ate leftover turkey.

Not one damn thing.

I stayed home and played Railroad Tycoon 3, Out of the Park Baseball, and Doom (I reinstalled it just for this day) all the livelong day.

And I’m happier because of it.
