So I take a long hot shower and about 20 minutes in, begin to feel sudden nausea. Which is alleviated by getting out of the shower and lying down, but wonder if this means
Body overheating from hot shower?
Sweating during shower causes fluid loss? Or something about salt? ( I did eat salty food and not drink all that much water)
Just standing too long?
I’ve had similar sensations on an airplane or during outdoors activities - sudden nausea, need to lie down.
Can’t find anything on Google about this.
Too hot a bath or shower triggers migraines in me, and when I get migraines, sometimes I get nausea.
Why are you taking hot showers? I know some people are convinced they aren’t clean without them, but the fact is you can’t really stand the sort of temperature that would actually kill germs. Try turning down the heat a little. You will get just as clean.
20 minutes IN? Your showers are way too long! I agree that it’s most likely due to heat and dehydration, but since you mentioned airplanes and other activities, there might be a motion sickness component. I tend towards motion sickness and sometimes get hit with dizziness and a little nausea.
20 minutes is way more time than it takes to get clean, but sometimes I like to stand in the shower and enjoy the sensation of water pouring all over me. I also have a massage fixture, and like to massage my shoulders with hot water.
I live in a wet part of the country. I don’t do stuff like that where there are perennial water shortages. But we usually have plenty of water spilling over the reservoirs, and few resources are as renewable as water.
I live in one of the rainier parts of the country, but even though it may pour down from the skies and fill the reservoirs, it does NOT replenish the aquifers which are taking quite the beating and take decades if not centuries to fill up again assuming we leave them strictly alone. Showering for hours is irresponsible regardless of where you live. Get a jacuzzi tub or a hot tub and reuse your water at least a few times. Then when you drain it, water the garden or something.
An inner ear thing? The hot water, the change in air pressure, & the movement during outdoor activities, can upset the fluid in your inner ears, leading to nausea. It goes away when you’re still and return to your normal posture.
Yeah, no. The amount of water you are using is a drop in the bucket compared to what is available. Water also does not necessarily even come from the water table, and waste water is often cleaned and added back to the system.
Please let’s not try to come up with excuses for why the OP is a horrible person and just answer his question. This is why I don’t ask for advice here–this always happens. Heck, one of my questions is about my dog. I know how badly that would go.
I find the sudden onset of nausea puzzling. It doesn’t sound like a drop in blood pressure nor an ear thing. The OP said “nausea” (stomach) not “dizziness/vertigo” (blood pressure/ear).
I woke up slightly dizzy this morning and that happens occasionally. I HATE it when that happens. Lying down does NOT help, and in fact, makes it worse. If I lie down, I have to be propped up on pillows to around 30 degrees. Not exactly related, but commiserating with the OP.
Well, if something you do starts to be painful or unpleasant after a given amount of time and that amount of time is in excess of what’s required to get the job done then stopping before it gets unpleasant seems like a pretty sensible course of action. The fact that it’s also environmentally friendly is just a lagniappe.
