Navy-Air Force may be cancelled

Apparently, upperclassmen at the Air Force Academy count as military personnel and are under travel restrictions due to the shutdown. From CNN.

It’s uncertain whether the upperclassmen at West Point and Annapolis fall into that category as well. If so, the shutdown could wreak havoc on their schedules also.

It seems to be the case for Army too, since there are reports their game at Boston College on Saturday is in question.

But as of now it’s still proceeding as scheduled. We’ll know more in a day I suspect.

I find it hard to believe that a football game is an “essential service”.

Never been to America, have yer, mate?

CNN says that 2 upcoming games with the service academies with Notre Dame are in question and it could cost ND a shot at a bowl game!

Who says a shut-down is ALL bad?

Wouldn’t it be a forfeit by Navy & Air Force, giving ND wins? I don’t see how it would hurt ND’s chances at getting a bowl game

Making them forfeits is pushing it, although the NCAA would probably give Notre Dame an exemption if it came down to it.

Besides, the games can be moved: ND-Air Force can be played on Friday 11/15 (that Saturday is a problem because Air Force plays UNLV the following Thursday), and ND-Navy can be played on Saturday 12/6.

Also, is a Notre Dame win over Air Force a given? Remember, the bowl eligibility requirement is “at least as many FBS wins (plus one FCS team that gives out at least 90% of its scholarships, if applicable, although ND plays only FBS teams this season) as total losses”; the six-win requirement no longer applies.

Unclear to me as well. I wasn’t listening to that part. I just heard “hurt ND’s bowl chance” and that caught my attention!

You need 6 wins against FBS teams to qualify for a bowl (unless they softened the rules again lately). This would have been one.
