NBA: March 2009

That was just a bad loss for the Mavs tonight against the OKC SuperThunder without Durant. I don’t like back to back games in the NBA. The Mavs had a nice win over the Raptors on Sunday night and then had to play in OKC tonight.

The Suns had a very nice win on the Lakers on Sunday. The Lakers lose 2 games in a row for this first time in quite a while.

Does anyone think there are really more than 3 competitive teams in the East? Right now the Bucks would make the playoffs despite being 29-33.

No. Meanwhile, there are 9 competitive teams in the West and one of them won’t make the playoffs and inferior teams from the East will.

It’s looking more and more likely that Phoenix is going to finish 9th. They gave false hope around the All-Star break with three 140 point games in a row, but now I don’t see them making it. The Lakers have all but cinched the #1 seed in the West. The other seven are fighting for seeding now.

It also appears that the Cavs and Celtics have already clinched spots this early. The top 3 Eastern teams are pretty good, especially those two and the other teams stink.

An interesting article on the Mavericks. The Mavs haven’t beaten a single Western Conference contender on the road since Christmas and they’re losing badly to the Hornets right now. This is their 4th game in 5 days with a Sunday win, Monday loss, Wednesday win and now this probably loss.

I’m shocked at how well the Rockets are playing. I’m not a T-Mac fan, but I didn’t think his leaving would help the Rockets get hot. Of course, Artest can have an implosion any day.

Well, I think the Cavs outta be embarrassed by that sorry ass performance against the Celtics the other night. They got beat up and bullied old-school. Somebody from the Cavs shoulda said “to hell with the suspension” and started slugging Celtics after that hard foul on Varajao. I don’t like fighting basketball, but sometime you gotta make a stand. Oh well, better for them to go through that now than Game 6.

That Celtics loss was disappointing. I think they thought they could go small with Garnett not playing and run the Celtics off the court, but Davis, Powe, and Perkins just outworked them inside. LeBron spent too much of that game taking jump shots.

Tonight’s Mavericks/Suns game has been quite good. Nowitzki with 26 points already, but the Suns are hanging in there. 86-83 with about 2 minutes left in the 3rd quarter. The Suns are quickly falling out of the playoff race, but at least it looks like they haven’t quit. Shaq and Nash with with 19 points each. The Mavs have to go play the Blazers tomorrow night, so that won’t be easy. Then the Mavs get the Lakers on Sunday! This week could decide the Western Conference playoffs.

In some wacko world, the Clippers are ahead of the Cavs 48-34 at halftime. I think the Cavs may have been partying it up in LA and forgot about the game.

How quickly people forget Detroit. Granted they are doing much worse this year, but they should have earned at least some respect over the past seven years to rise above “stink.”

Once AI was injured, the Pistons remembered who they were again. They are not good enough to win it all, but they have the talent and experience to scare any team from any conference in a playoff series.

The Mavericks won the second game of a back to back against Portland. Quite impressive. Their game tomorrow night against the Warriors just screams trap game as the Mavs then have to play the Lakers on Sunday. With two impressive wins this week over the Suns and Blazers, the Mavs shouldn’t look past the Warriors.

Did the Jazz peak too early? That was an impressive win streak and the team is finally healthy. Milssap has been amazing this year and is still making league minimum. I doubt Boozer will be back next year. So, this could be a year the Jazz go deep in the playoffs.

Finally, tonight has the Suns against the Cavs. If the Suns lose tonight, I think I’d stick a fork in them. Shaq has been running his mouth a lot lately. Obviously, he wants to be moved as I don’t see the Suns improving for next year.

Without Chauncey and with AI, they stink. AI is a scorer, nothing else. AI and Tracy McGrady are the most overrated players in the Association.

Hollinger currently has Phoenix at 26.4% chance of making the playoffs. Dallas is at 86.3%. The Suns are done.

Please. How can a guy who has a career average of over 2 steals a game (fifth all time in the NBA), over 6 assists a game, and averaged over 7 assists for a seven year period primarily playing with nobodies in Philadelphia, a “scorer and nothing else?” Nonsense. Here’s a short list of current players who have fewer career assists per game than A.I. (primarily a scorer).

Sam Cassell, Mike Bibby, Chauncey Billups, Tony Parker.

Not Hall of Famers, sure, but all true PGs, which A.I. isn’t. Stop with the needless and unreasonable hate.

An ugly loss for the Mavericks today. I knew the game against the Warriors was a trap game and they’d lose that after two good wins.

Dallas needs to work hard now. They don’t want to play the Lakers in the first round. The last 4 playoff slots of the Western Conference are open and the Mavs could make a lot of noise.

The Suns are done.
