NBA Owner's Racism Exposed

Well, Jordan did punch Steve Kerr.

Well done, but you missed the “slaves were actually treated really well/ were better off” prediction to counter the argument that Sterling treated the Clippers like his plantation.

I don’t see any need to compare consequences for varying degrees of racism.

Taking a broad perspective, Banning a filthy rich old fucker from owning an NBA team is a pretty small consequence for him in my view.

It hurts Stirling almost not at all, but makes a very important symbolic statement. Almost perfectly in proportion so far as I’m concerned.

There was a documentary made about it a few years ago. Maybe your an average sports fan so that’s why you never heard of it?

Sterling is 80 years old. It’s much less likely he’ll reverse his opinion in the short term or live long enough to come around like Byrd did in his 30s (or at least as Byrd publicly did). Worse, Sterling has rarely put up a public, even if unfelt, act of contrition for his actions.

But I do agree a lifetime ban is an overreaction. It means it doesn’t matter even if the man might earnestly change his mind.

You said it was “a pretty well known fact”. If you have to be an above average sports fan to know it, it’s not “pretty well known”.

Also, cite? If it’s well known among above average basketball fans, there ought to be a wiki article or imdb link or website or something.

Does what Jason Williams did to Gary Payton on that one crossover count as racism or is that black on black, technically?

He said something about white players need to be more vocal about Sterling.

How is a fact about sports that isn’t known by the “average sports fan” “well known”?

Shaq was the victim of a discriminatory foul preference.

I said that wrong, it’s well known in the NBA. Not to the average fan.

I don’t think I’ve posted in this thread yet, so let me offer you some perspective, please.

You have done far more than only suggesting that people wait until all the facts are in.

In fact, you have now written thousands and thousands of words excoriating, denigrating and insulting every other poster in this thread and at times the entire board.

You did it to start the post I quoted, in fact, by calling everyone else posting in this thread “hysterical children”. You compounded that later with numerous insults and invective in the same post.

You’re posts are coming across poorly (at best) and you are making an impression, at least on me, that you are someone who is petulant and unhinged, at least with respect to the issue you keep bringing up (“innocent until proven guilty”, btw). If you aren’t trying to self-destruct here, you are doing just about the worst possible job of achieving your goal that I can imagine in this forum.

As to the topic of the thread: We now know it was Sterling because he admitted it. Fuck him. He’s a racist douchebag. I’m sure he can console himself with the remainder of his US$2 billion; he can prolly pay for a lot more prostitutes with that kind of money, for instance.

This argument makes absolutely no sense to me.

Because one person does something wrong and is not adequately chastised for it, another person should get some leeway for doing something wrong? That’s some bizarro logic.

If a rich man can afford to lawyer up and get away with beating another man publicly doesn’t mean I should be able to get away with beating another man publicly or that the behavior shouldn’t be treated harshly by our legal system. This is almost as bad as the earlier NAACP argument.

If there are problems with black NBA players treating white players badly, that’s not good. But that does not in any way ameliorate Sterling’s situation or the response to it. If true, it means we should also deal with the other issue. Preferably in another thread.

Care to state the name of the doc, and the specific claims made?

Why is that ridiculous? Especially for Spike Lee, who has a history of saying things that actually are ridiculous.

That doesn’t sound even remotely ridiculous.

I am entirely unable to find this documentary, or any information suggesting that it exists. My skill level with the Google, though, is admittedly limited. Any chance you could point me in the direction of this film?

AS for Spike Lee, here’s the quote I found:

Lee also said he’s disappointed that more white players haven’t come forward to condemn Sterling and his remarks.
“If you are someone who believes in humanity, justice for all, whether based on race, sex, whatever, this is an affront to everybody,” he said. “We should all be outraged as Americans.”

Terrible. Practically the same thing Sterling said, amiright?

I’m pretty sure it was on ESPN. I don’t think it was a 30 for 30 one though. I was trying to look it up too and couldn’t find it. It may have been on HBO, Real Sports with Brian Gumpbell maybe.

Are you sure it wasn’t just a T-Wolves game?

It’s ridiculous because who is Spike Lee to judge a white player for not making a statement. It’s not up to him whether or not somebody should make a statement over this. White or black.

Bryant Gumbel. Do you maybe want to walk back your statement until you can find this mysterious documentary?

Stop digging.
