NBA Playoffs are here!

Fuck me, that was a fun game! JJ Berea was kicking ass, I thought he got short shrift after the game. But what an awesome perfomance from Dallas. Good for Kidd, getting a trophy. Good for Cuban for mostly restraining himself.

Kidd is still a wife beater.

Uh, yes? I hope this ends the MJ/Lebron comparisons, at this point even Pippen might have the right to feel a little insulted.

And Miami are still l-o-o-s-e-r-s.

Yeeeeeessssssssssssss!

“People who wanted me to fail, they’re still going to wake up tomorrow with the same personal problems.” --LeBron James

What a pretentious ass.

Lebron will wake tomorrow with choker even more firmly lodged in his reputation. He will have a a few months to chew on that.

Actually, yes.

Miami literally gave up on the game when it was still possible for them to win. It would have taken a miracle, but miracles have happened before. They didn’t even try.

You salty? These guys are alpha male athletes, not the most pleasant people to be around. If you’re trying to find guys to root for who don’t have dirt on them you should give up. The sport’s most celebrated figure was a serial gambler, adulterer, and major league asshole. Kidd beat before they even married, and he ended up divorcing her to marry a model. These guys can do whatever they want to women.

LeBron took his talents to South Beach and left his drive, ambition, motivation, and heart up here in the vulgar, big-ass mansion he built. He packed a little too light for the move. Thank you, Mavs, for the schadenfreude that’s going to stay with us for a little while now.

Did anyone notice that LeBron had a -24 last night? The previous worst for either team in the series was LeBron and Wade at -13 each in (I think) Game 4. Am I reading it right that Miami would have been +14 when LeBron was off the floor? I wonder what other historically low +/- numbers are for star players in big games.

And yeah, my life may be just as miserable (or not quite miserable) today as yesterday, but that would have been the case if the Heat had won. His is decidedly worse, unless he simply doesn’t care that they lost and that he’s picked up (reaffirmed?) his choker label, in which case, he would be a complete phony. I even want to like the guy, but then I read things like he leaves voicemails for other players (pro or coming out of college) saying, “This is King James, come join CAA [his agent’s group organization].”

Well, yeah, in that I still have as many rings as LeBron does…

And the Vikings are still 0 for the Superbowl.

I’m a little sad that the Timberwolves are too bad, and Kidd is too old, for a “veteran Jason Kidd leads a resurgent Timberwolves to the NBA Finals” scenario to be plausible.

As someone who lived in Dallas for much of his life I can’t tell you how enjoyable these playoffs have been to watch. Thanks you, Mavs!

And as someone thoroughly disgusted by last year’s self annointing by James, Wade and whatshisname, I found this really amusing… the Maverics were getting calls from players and coaches around the league giving hints and recs on how to beat the Heat. Not that Dallas wouldn’t have done it without that, but apparently most of the NBA proper were of a mind that those three needed a dressing down.

Interesting idea I’d just heard on the radio today, relating to James and his playoff performance this series: Think of a Dwight Howard for LeBron James trade, straight up. Which team says “No” first to that deal, Orlando or Miami? Then consider that James is under contract for the next 4 years, while Howard is, IIRC, a free agent after this upcoming year. (All this assumes the NBA doesn’t implode next year with a lockout.)

I’m delighted to hear that the Heat lost. And surprised that the NBA couldn’t arrange the series to go the full 7 games.

Mavs just destoyed LeBron’s summer. Had LeBron got his ring he’d be spending every night this summer partying in South Beach being “THE GUY” at every club, every private party, drving down A1A in some luxury convertible of his choice head held high with adoring fans smiling and giving thumbs up everywhere he goes.
Now he has to spend his millions in hiding with his head held low. If I was him I’d head off to some secluded island for the summer.

Both say “no” at the same time and hang up. It may be hard for them to do at this point, but Orlando wants to keep Howard. What they need to do is free up some of the money they’re spending on their supporting players, because to get better, they’ll need to improve those guys. Trading Howard for LeBron wouldn’t make the team better and it wouldn’t fix their predicament. Miami does need help inside, but LeBron (whatever his weaknesses) is their best player. They’d weaken their perimeter defense a great deal and I’m not sure how Bosh and Howard would co-exist. It’s an interesting idea but it’s pure fantasy league even without the labor issues. It would suck if the league screws up its own momentum by having a work stoppage.

If LeBron would leverage his talents correctly, this wouldn’t be a problem. But he won’t develop a post game, he won’t stop launching 3s, he won’t set picks, he won’t go fight for rebounds when his shot is off…he had less offensive boards than JJ freaking Barea. He just refuses to maximize his potential (kinda like Dwight Howard, actually).

He really is Wilt Chamberlain.

Yeah, but I also won’t be spending those nights in wretched squalor, grovelling over nickles and dimes, eagerly awaiting to punch the clock at the factory for minimum wage because I find it less depressing than my family and my ragged shanty.
