I hope there isn’t another thread here, but I couldn’t find it. Fair warning: I’m a Lakers fan since the 60’s.
Damn, the Lakers look pretty great. Game 1, a miraculous comeback from 20 down in the middle of the third quarter. Kobe takes over the game, makes easy passes to Gasol when Duncan comes out to help, resulting in a complete devastating loss for the Spurs.
Game 2, Lakers jump out to an early lead, Gasol gets in early foul trouble, and all the calls seem to be going towards San Antonio. Lakes make a huge run at the end of the second quarter, making it very difficult for the Spurs. Farmar seems to be feeling a bit more confident and makes an unbelievable block on Tony Parker’s breakaway layup. The Lakers are firing on all 8 cylinders and win it going away. Other than the weird weather and tornadoes, things are looking up in L.A.
I am not a fan of any of the teams left (not meaning anything negative just meaning my team is the Wizards), but of the ones left I prefer SA, Detroit, LA, Celtics in that order.
Yeah the Lakers are playing very well and in fact, kind of quietly for them, have played well thru this whole playoffs - except for the game 3 & 4 in the Jazz when they looked beatable & game 1 in this series until they answered. Losing game one that way had to hurt SA & take something out of them. I think they probably need to sweep at home.
Boston has to be reeling too. All thru the playoffs the cry was “If the big three start playing well, watch out league” Well for the first time in the playoffs the big three all had +20 pts & they still lost at home… and now start the Road trip. Sweet if you hate the NBAhype machine. Sad if you kind of respect KG. Not that it is over.
This is the time of year when my unbridled pessimism kicks in. I am quite certain that disaster lurks around the corner for the Gallant Knights in Purple and Gold, as I always am when the Lakers reach the Conference Finals. A sampling of my notes from Games One and Two v. San Antonio:

In all seriousness, the playoffs have been fun to watch, and I think both series have the potential to be classics. And as I said before, I won’t believe San Antonio is dead until I can witness the post-mortem.
