He also lost his line of mattresses at Serta. Who wants anything with Trump’s name in their bedroom? Blearg…
It’s absurd to believe that Univision was not aware of Trump’s views of illegal aliens and illegal immigration when it entered into contracts with Trump businesses. Business is business. While you can say pretty much anything you wish about politicians and candidates, that’s not an valid excuse to violate contracts.
It’s interesting that Univision is now using it’s suddenly discovered disagreement with Trump’s views to raise $100 million to operate it’s business. I doubt that $100 million IPO’s can be created within a week. Months maybe, but it’s more likely to take a year of planning. I wonder what would be the best way to gain free advertising to entice jingoist investors?
*Univision’s big week: Broadcaster drops Trump and files for IPO

Spanish-language broadcasting company Univision Holdings Inc. filed plans Thursday to launch an initial public offering of its stock.
The New York-based company said Thursday that it expects to raise up to $100 million in the offering. It did not say how many shares it will sell or how much they will cost. It expects the stock to trade on the New York Stock Exchange or on Nasdaq under the symbol “UVN.”
Last week, the Spanish-language media giant cut business ties with Donald Trump, saying the real estate mogul made “insulting remarks” about Mexican immigrants when he announced that he was running for president.
…Proceeds from the planned IPO will be used to repay debt and for general corporate purposes, the company said. Univision said it had profit of $1.9 million on revenue of $2.91 billion in 2014.*
:dubious:
On the other hand, what would be a better way to piss off your target audience right before your big IPO than to have the person identified with your highest profile show insult them, and not do anything about it?
Is it good business to publicly insult millions of viewers?
Univision doesn’t care what Trump thinks about Mexicans, they care what he says about Mexicans.
The truly disgusting aspect of this whole issue is that Trump appears completely unconcerned about the large numbers of women being raped while trying to get to our border.
I can’t imagine that the ratings for The [sorta kinda a] Celebrity Apprentice have been very much since the show is ancient. Miss USA has never been a fraction of Miss America and even Miss America isn’t what she was (how many people can tell you the name or state of any of the past few winners?), and the only time I remember it getting headlines in years was when that ditz Carrie Prejean dissed gay marriage and got famous for six minutes.
When Apprentice was the biggest show on television Trump could have set a Mexican janitor on fire and they’d probably have kept him on the air, but I wonder if this is giving them a good chance to ditch some ratings turkeys without violating a contract.
I was at a discount clothing place and found a dress shirt I liked at a really good clearance price but refused to get it when I saw it had Donald Trump’s name on it. I’m probably not the only one. No idea how his clothing label sells in general.
Hahahaha. Where is the Mexican governments concern? You know, the people who are actually supposed to protect the Mexican people, and protect the illegal aliens passing thru Mexico.
And your attempting to blame Trump for the obvious failures of the Mexican government? That’s hysterical.
(post shortened)
That’s the big question isn’t it. Did Univision violate the contract. Trump’s opinions on illegal immigration were well known. Did Univision violated it’s contract with a Trump company based on “suddenly” discovering that Donald Trump is Donald Trump?
Univision is (I believe) based in California. Trump’s company is based in New York. Trump’s suit says the contract stipulates that NY law applies to any disputes, giving Trump the home-court advantage.
Univision hopes to raise $100 million. Trump’s company hopes to be awarded $500 million. If Trump only receives $100 million for damages, does that mean Trump just bought Univision?
Trump didn’t say anything he hasn’t said/implied before.
Univision was perfectly happy to make money partnering with Trump companies, regardless of what Mexicans thought. Now Univision management has suddenly discovered it has a conscience, and a concern for their fellow Mexicans???
Who gives a shit, they’re not running for president of my country. Trump is, and he’s portraying himself as a sociopathic racist who only cares about rape when it can score him political points on his pet topic of the Mexican border.
Well, there’s the 80% of the women traversing Mexico who are being raped. I imagine that they give a shit.
Trump has always been against illegal aliens entering the U.S. because it’s ILLEGAL. Illegal aliens have been arrested for committing rape, robbery, and murder in the U.S… You may object to that fact but that doesn’t change the situation.
Just to be clear, I don’t believe Trump has what it takes to be President of the U.S… A U.S. President needs to have the ability to reach a compromise with the U.S. Congress. On that issue, Trump is just as incompetent as Barack Obama. My way or the highway, aint gonna get the job done.
The recent murder in San Francisco, committed by an illegal alien, proves that Trump’s concerns about allowing criminal illegal aliens in to the U.S. are legitimate. Some people may chose to ignore the criminal activity of illegal aliens. Some people won’t.
San Francisco’s sanctuary city policy attracts illegal alien felons which does not make San Fran safer. Even the news crews are subjected to being robbed in broad daylight.
*SAN FRANCISCO – A man suspected in the shooting death of a woman at a busy San Francisco tourist destination has seven felony convictions and has been deported five times, most recently in 2009, a federal agency said Friday.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement had turned Francisco Sanchez over to San Francisco police March 26 on an outstanding drug warrant, agency spokeswoman Virginia Kice said. His criminal history includes seven prior felony convictions, four involving narcotics charges*.
*SAN FRANCISCO – Two TV reporters and camera operators were robbed Thursday morning while doing a follow-up story on a fatal shooting that happened at Pier 14, according to police.
The incident happened at about 6 a.m.
San Francisco police say two cameras and tripods were taken during the robbery*.
*San Francisco City and County Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi argued that San Francisco’s sanctuary city policy “makes us safer” on Monday’s broadcast of CNN’s “The Lead.”
Mirkarimi was asked whether being a sanctuary city makes San Francisco safer, he answered, “It makes us safer. I firmly believe it makes it safer. We’re a world-renowned city with a large immigrant population. And of that population is a population that is also here undocumented. From a law enforcement perspective, we want to build trust with that population. And our sanctuary city and other attendant laws have allowed us to do that.”*
You’re only saying that because this is Cafe Society.
Yep.
