NCAA Football 09

Searching the thread history, I don’t think there’s overmuch clamoring for the newest iteration of EA’s college football offering, coming out on Tuesday.

But I recall a thread last year that put a few people on the “prefer NCAA to Madden” side of the line, so I know there are a few players, at least.

I’m not rabid about it (or really, any video games), but will grab a PS3 copy at some point on Tuesday or Wednesday, though work will prevent me really getting down to playing until the start of August.

I’d been holding off on replacing my copy of NCAA 2005 (on the first Xbox), hoping for a Wii version; then I ended up getting a PS3, and realizing from Madden on the Wii that a traditional controller really just works better under EA’s control schemes. I’ve been playing the demo on my PS3 a bit, and I’m afraid that it seems a good deal harder than the old ones. Defenses are faster, but that may just be getting used to a higher, more fluid frame rate. I do a lot of stupid things, but I’m willing to blame that entirely on needing to pause and double-check the control scheme every other play, because it’s so different from what I’d gotten used to. Upon familiarizing myself (and getting to play more than two minute quarters), I expect the game to get a lot more fun. I’m reasonably excited, though cautiously so.

I’ve let it go, but now it is time for the release day

BUMP

Anybody got it? Playing?

I’m not going to be able to even stick it in the PS3 for a day or two, but then I’m ready to rock. One thing I didn’t mention in the OP is the online dynasty mode. Unfortunately, I don’t really have any friends with PS3’s, and even in some gaming utopia where PS3 and 360 online networks make nice and work together, I don’t have many friends who are interested in football. So please, anybody with the PS3 version, want to start an online league? I’d rather not try with complete strangers who are, in all likelihood, 14 year olds with nothing better to do all summer. I don’t look forward to get my ass handed to me by some juvenile “733t d00d!!!1one”

I might be down to join a league. Never done it before and certainly I can hold my own vs. the PS3 AI, but I’m an old skool gamer… never got used to the crazy L3, etc. buttons.

I got my copy today. I used to go nuts for this day but with a kid and a real-ass job I almost forgot. A mate of mine was going to stroll into Circuit City and pick up a XBox 360, so I tagged along after work. I just happened to ask the clerk “do you have any PS3 copies of NCAA 2009?” and I got the last one… ha!

I belong to the Operation Sports forums and checked on the progress of the rosters. Apparently there’s a big bug in them, so most people aren’t downloading them yet. Which is a shame, because I certainly can’t take the game seriously without rosters. Why EA Sports doesn’t release a few copies of the game early to gamers who will actually get the rosters ready at the time of release is beyond me.

Not to shit on your thread, but, living in Philly, we still have a month to wait for football video games. Getting killed with Temple in NCAA? Not a whole lot of fun.

I wanted to prove you wrong, and say “but you could always root for ______.” But if it’s not Temple, it’s Villanova. If you’re willing to drive a little, Rutgers or (hardly worth mentioning at all) Lehigh.

You have my pity, sir.

Though you could always enjoy the richer, more varied gameplay of college ball with one of the hundreds of other teams. Go totally outside your conference, see teams you’d never see in real life (if I get bored with ACC, I enjoy picking some WAC or PAC-10 team).
