I can understand people *wanting * Bucknell to win this game. Pull for the underdog and all that. What I can’t understand is the total lack of respect Memphis has gotten this month. Not worthy of a 1 seed? Picked to lose to a 16 seed? Picking to lose to a 9 seed? (Unless you are getting points).
I know we’ve seen a couple of 12 and 13 seeds win, but not against a team as good as Memphis. All they did was go 30-3 against some pretty good competition.
Anyway, my goofy bracket pick is that I have LSU going to the final 4, beating Duke and Texas ( )
I actually have LSU (instead of Duke) going to the final four in about half of my brackets as well, including my SDMB bracket; I think I have them beating West Virginia instead of Texas, though.
re: Memphis, I tend to think that the people who thought they’d lose to Oral Roberts were reaching for a story. One seeds do lose to the 8-9 winner once every year or two, and it IS a valid criticism that they haven’t played much in the way of serious opponents since conference play started. Bucknell is as solid a team as any of the 8-9s this year, in my opinion, they just don’t have the name that Kentucky or Arizona does… but I do think the Tigers will get past them. Bradley will be a deceptively difficult opponent, though: most objective observers would have put them closer to a 9 or 10 seed than a 13, and the victories over Kansas and Pitt have been absolutely solid victories - no last second miracle shots, here. I’m not sure they will match up physically with Memphis, though.
UConn is looking much better in the first half… for any of this wave of games to be close, someone will have to make some significant halftime adjustments. The favorites are all looking pretty good right now.
Under five minutes, Carolina’s down to George Mason, and I’m still watching Bucknell. Because, you know, I’m a Bucknell fan. I’m going to burn down CBS.
What’s the number to call and complain? I signed up for the internet feed, but when I clicked on the Memphis game it says it can’t show that one to me becasue “according to their data” the local CBS affiliate is showing that game. But it is not! My local station is showing UNC/George Mason!
So, no TV and no internet for the game I want to see. And they call this the information age.
The problem is that the affiliates don’t change feeds to show the other games, CBS interrupts the game to show the other game. If your affiliate is on the Memphis feed, they’ll black you out even if CBS cuts to another game.
As it turns out, it wasn’t the top seeds in the D.C. bracket that anyone should have been worried about, but the middle and lower ones. UNC is done, adding another mid-major to the Sweet 16 as well as guaranteeing that at least one will make the Elite 8 out of a GMU-Wichita St. matchup.
Kentucky is one good run away from completely destroying that bracket. Many commiserations to those of you with broadcast problems; I’ve had many of them this week, but am lucky today with my Hartford CT CBS affiliate locked into the UConn game, while the Boston CBS affiliate had the end of the UNC game.
UConn by two with three to go… little bit worried, gotta admit!
I’m not sure I understand. The newspaper says we get the UNC/George Mason game. That’s what they are showing. As far as I know, they haven’t interrupted that game or switched off to anything else. The website for the internet feed says that our affiliate is showing the *Memphis * game and that’s why I can’t stream it. Somehow, their inability to figure out what game is being broadcast in my area cost me the chance to see the game.
George Mason and Bradley screwed up my bracket in the first round and have returned the favour by screwing up everyone else’s in the second. That’s what makes this greatest, one day you can “hate” a group of players and then two days later be cheering them for every defensive stop, every easy put back.
Having said that, if UConn loses here I’m in deep trouble.
I suppose CBS can’t win. I’m actually on the other side of the coin from you two. I’m in Philly, so Bucknell’s the “local game,” and I’m desperate to be switched to the more intriguing national matchups – right now it’s Big Blue. Even if it was Nova and not Bucknell, I ain’t trying to watch the commercial break that precedes the dribbling out of the clock in a blowout. Show me the games that are games, damn it!
That pointing bullshit the UConn cheerleaders do is one of the most obnoxious things I’ve ever seen. That would have been a good way to get a ball in the face during my playing days. Oh, right, that’s because I was totally out of control.
Phew, well played. We made the FTs and Sparks STILL almost managed to do it.
My bracket is… um… less great, but still surviving? I’m looking to have 8-9 of the 16, and 3 of my final 4, depending on the last wave of games. I picked the right favorites to lose for the most part… just the wrong underdogs to beat them (Seton Hall instead of Wichita, etc).
If WVU holds on to this one, with 13 out of 16 set we’ll be looking at:
The last three games are all major conference teams, but we’re still looking at five non-majors out of 16, which has to be seen as somewhat of a victory for the little guys.
As much as I hate Kentucky and Patrick Sparks, I have to respect him for the way he played in his career at Kentucky. He never quit. Any chance for him to be drafted?
