I love this show but don’t see every episode. In old eps, Gibbs is building a boat in his basement that’s too big to get out the one door we know about. Currently, it’s gone and he’s started building something else. I missed this transition. What happened to the boat?
He finished it - broke the bottle and gave it to Frank for his grandaughter. It turns up later with a couple of dead mercenaries on it after a shootout. (this leads to the bits with the cartel).
I think there may have been more than one boat over the last 10 years. But at some point he took leave and sailed the then-finished boat down the Intracoastal Waterway to give to Mike Franks, who put it on a truck to take to the west coast of Mexico.
This is all revealed to the viewer in a season 7 episode, when the boat turns up in the San Diego naval base with bulletholes and two dead men in it. I won’t spoil the episode for you in case you haven’t seen it, but Abby does end up sawing the boat into pieces.
And no, it was not explained how the boat left the basement.
Thanks! Does he have a bilko hatch or something?
Named for Sgt. Bilko? (hands up if you have any idea what this refers to)
(I think it’s spelled “Bilco”)…
Anyway, the answer is no, he’s Gibbs, he doesn’t need no stinking Bilco hatch. Maybe he only crafted the pieces and dry-fitted them while in the basement, so he then took it all apart, took the pieces out the door and re-assembled it permanently in his driveway. This should only take a couple of days, right? I mean, he’s Gibbs!
Roddy
You bet you life I do! (And you’ll never get rich either.)
I know Gibbs’ technique even mystified Abby, who patted the walls trying to find a secret panel or something that he could have used to remove the boat from the basement.
Simple - break the bottle.
And that way you’d find the prow?
uh - what?
