Gah! I totally forgot to tape Part 1 of the NCIS season finale! Would someone please catch me up?
Pretty please?
With Gibbs on top?
Mmm, I’d love to have Gibbs on top…

Gibbs got blowed up real good.
And that took an hour?
I taped it but I won’t be able to watch it till tomorrow.
That’s all I felt like typing at the time. But since no one has attended to the task of posting a synopsis, I suppose I can. Keep in mind, it’s VERY jumbled – I’m just writing things as they creep into my head.
Gibbs is working a case on a boat. He chases this foreign dude through the ship, but it turns out the dude is an undercover operative who wanted to talk in private. Terrorists apparently want to blow up a port or something. Then Gibbs gets blowed up real good. He’s taken to the hospital, where Jenny places a call to Condi Rice to get the unyielding desk nurse to let her in to see him. Abby then shows up and is admitted as well. Through flashbacks, we learn that Gibbs was once in a coma for 19 days after being injured in Desert Storm. We also learn that he had a wife and daughter who were murdered for witnessing a murder, and Gibbs tracked down the baddie responsible for it and wasted him from long-range. There’s this doctor at the hospital named Todd who treated Gibbs back in the day, and I have read that he might make more appearances next season. That kind of worries me, because I have also heard that somebody important is going to be exiting the show, and I want Ducky around! Speaking of Ducky, I think the funniest scene in the whole episode is when Ducky sits by the bedside of the comatose Gibbs and launches into yet another one of his meandering anecdotes. Ducky FINALLY has a captive audience! Meantime, Tony starts acting like Gibbs, and the team members eventually get fed up with it and tell him off. Ziva and Abby get into a short slap fight over Ziva’s perceived lack of expressed emotion regarding Gibbs’ condition (although she gets a scene later on in which she goes into the bathroom and reveals her inner upsettedness). Gibbs does wake up at the end, but from next week’s previews, it appears that he thinks it’s 1991 and his family is still alive.
I think Snooooopy (was that the right number of o’s?) pretty much nailed it. Let me see if I can do a little more …
The undercover NCIS agent Gibbs was with on the boat was killed in the blast, and it appears he was sitting on the bomb. He had deviated from the original plan to be simply arrested and taken away by Gibbs because he had been offered the opportunity to act as courier in some big-time terrorist activities, and being arrested would jeopardize that. He and Gibbs were about to enact a plan to get him off the boat in the guise of him “escaping” when the bomb blew.
The neurologist (Todd) treating Gibbs was the same doctor who treated him during Desert Storm, when he received a Purple Heart and spent 19 days in a coma after (and this is guesswork) doing something stupid when he found out his wife and daughter were dead. According to Dr. Todd (who was hitting on Jenny in a circumspect kinda way), it seemed that Gibbs just didn’t want to wake up. There were snippets of “dream” from Gibbs’ point of view, explaining the death of his family and how he went and kilt the bastid that murdered them.
Ziva spent some time interviewing the captain of the boat where the explosion took place, a Turkish guy who, while not a terrorist himself, has profited from terrorism, and in general earned Ziva’s dislike. He identified the Filipino radio operator Gibbs’ undercover contact claimed was the terrorist agent planning to blow up a supply ship and probably an entire port, too, but since Gibbs is comatose, nobody really knows about this plan.
Oh, and McGee accidentally gave Tony a bloody nose, but that was just for comic relief–especially effective after Abby and Ziva spent some time slapping each other.
At the end of the episode, Gibbs regained consciousness, remembering Dr. Todd but with no idea who Ducky was, and apparently unaware that 15 years had passed since his last coma.
re: Dr. Todd – Am I the only one who found him suspicious? Like, is he a real doctor? I’m waiting for him to be revealed as the bad guy.
twicks–
I think it’s because he’s been a bad guy in just about everything else I’ve seen him in, and he’s got a “bad guy” face. (Most notably, I’m thinking of this season of Lost.) Cozying up to Jenny in that situation didn’t help my image of him any, but I can’t imagine how he could end up being at all connected to what’s going on.
Draelin – makes sense. Plus, of course, it’s the kind of cheesy plot “twist” the show revels in. So, yeah, I’m still not convinced I’m wrong about this.
Yeah, the more I think about it, the more I’m not convinced you’re wrong, either.
Heh. You can high-five me – or not – at the NJ picnic on the 20th!
Wow … thanks, Snooooopy and Draelin!
So is “Todd” the doctor’s first name or last name? I’m guessing it’s his first name, or there would have been some comments regarding former Agent Caitlin Todd…?
School is now officially done for the semester (last night was a potluck at the professor’s house), so next week I’ll finally get to watch NCIS “live” instead of taping it. Just in time for the season finale. <grin>
It was his first name, but I can’t for the life of me remember his last.
You take Gibbs, I’ll take Ziva. Or Abby.
Speaking of Abby, did anyone catch the nutria reference? Pauley Perrette is from New Orleans. I thought it was a nice in-joke.
Did anyone catch DiNozzo’s Jessica Alba joke?
Michael Weatherly really did date her back in the day…
Additional thoughts:
The guy who set the bomb and escaped is supposedly the Filipino cook. The fellow agent supposedly blown up is Asiatic. Gibbs did not know him personally. Why was he sitting on or even in the fifty-gallon oil drum the bomb was in? We never did see what photo the captain ID’d as the cook.
